Touch Screen VS. Buttons
« on: December 02, 2006, 02:40:21 am »
Hi all,

I have been gathering info for a new mame machine and juke for what seems like forever. I recently got my hands on a 19" touchscreen. I was gonna use it for a jkjebox but I am now having second thoughts and am now considering buttons. Any suggestions. I was gonna use VMJ it unless there is any better suggestions.

it depend wich software you are going to use.

Some software (Example my own, Arcade Music Box) prefer controllers and other is made for touchscreen (like example Freebox).

You can see on the wiki, wich controls these software actuelly use.
Decade Old Work: MultiFE, ArcadeMusicBox
Today Works: Various Spectrum Next games from Rusty Pixels and html5 games.

Since you asked for opinions mine is Touchscreen but for personal reasons.  I have two kids 9 and 6 and it makes it very easy for them to just touch the screen and pick the music they want.   I have a total section for just their music Kids Bop etc etc and kids Christmas Music for this time of year.  I just had a Hold em tournament at my house and the tables set up in my rec room loved the touchscreen......just my two cents
ps I am running Freebox and it works nicely, but also want to let you know that Space's program is excellent as I used it before I got the touchscreen.  You can't go wrong either way!!

How many people show up to your tournament?  What was the buy in?  Did you win?

I had 40 people invited and 35 showed up.  We did a 20.00 buy in.  My brother in law has the tournament director software which makes the whole thing kind of a breeze.  Believe it or not my wife and I became the last two sitting so we played the last hand for giggles and we split the winning money.  (I beat her on the last hand but by sheer luck of the card, she is damn good!!)  We  paid the last table starting at the 6th position.  Everyone brings their favorite alcohol and some food to share was really a good time.  Started at 6:30 and ended at 1am.   We are going to start doing this monthly with different people hosting at their homes.  I have a great niece who runs a baby sitting service at my brother in laws house with a friend of hers.  They ended up making about 100.00 each for watching about 10 kids from age 5 to 11.  Mine was the eleven year old and she helped so I chipped 20.00 bucks to her for helping......hey share the wealth as I say!!!
