Vertical games and multiplayer
« on: November 30, 2006, 02:37:17 pm »
Is it true that most (all?) vertical games are played by taking turns?

At the moment, in my caffeine-deprived state-of-mind, I can only think of horizontal games that allow multiple players at the same time.

Please correct me with actual titles, or a website that lists them in such an order.

Thanks.

Lots of those flying games are simultaneous multi-player - 1942 style.

Running a quick search in maws for vertical simultaneous 2 player games yields 410 results.  Lots of clones and different versions of the same games though...

Doing the same search as above, except parents only, resulted in 210 games.  Most are shooters - flying, but there's shooting - walking, sports, and some puzzles.

FWIW:
- Some of my fav's are like Ikari: vertical 2 player rotary games.
- A bunch of the puzzles, above, are mature Qix like, if that matters to you.

Contra and Super Contra come to mind as vertical 2 player that is not flying.

For the most part vert games alternate.  To bad that I love bumping player 2 in 1942.

Yup, me too.  Heavy Barrel, Guerrilla War, etc.  Doug, keep in mind that these require rotary sticks of course.   ;D
