What game uses the Happ "Mega Button"?
« on: November 26, 2006, 04:32:41 pm »
And how does it work?  It seems to have 4 microswitch buttons built into the base

god knows what uses it..... but you would wire the 4 switches in parallel so that if any switch gets pressed it connects

But why not just one button?  The schematic shows a single large spring under the blue 'button'.  It seems like you could rig a single horizontal button under there and be done with it.

With all four, I was wondering if there was more to the "Mega Button" than just a single "push".  Like maybe there was some way to have it do four different 'actions' depending on how you pushed it.

All I know is that I want to see this baby on somebody's frankenpanel  ;D

Yes there is more to it.....  The mega button is actually like a joystick controller... You can push in various directions to hit different switches. BUT unlike a joystick you can also hit all four ways at once by just pressing vertically.

Not sure which game it's for I'm digging to find out right now. It's likely to be something fairly recent.

I would think it would be used on some form of redemption (ticket giving) style game.
Possibly one with a mallet.

It just looks like a major rig. Kind of ridiculous if you ask me (which you didn't, but I said it anyways).

I've wondered the same thing when I saw this in the catalog.

I've seen the Jumbo Dome button used before, but never this thing. The jumbo dome buttons I've seen were used in redemption games. One I saw was a giant STOP button for a wheel-of-fortune-type game.

I thought it was interesting that it's made to mount underneath a wooden panel.

Maybe it's made for some type of industrial application. I don't see why you'd need anything more than the jumbo dome in an arcade.
Brevity is not my strong suit.

They always remind me of Pop 'n Music, music game with those big ole buttons. Or that Laserdisk game, BadLands. The only control on that game was a big button to shoot your gun.

Never seen those multi-direction button before though. Looks useless, except for a mallet game like someone already said.

Small crane game or redemption game... one control to move the arm around as well as to push "lower and grab and return".

Is that a hypothesis or have you seen the "Mega Button" in action?

Not that specific one but I've seen similar controls on redemption games.

I understand this is an old thread, however...

Has anyone looked into using a mega button mounted on the front of their virtual pinball cab so you can continue to do the proper hip-checking to "tilt" the game? I'm thinking perhaps behind a front plate. Wire the buttons independently, then use button combination presses for tilt left/right/forward. Feels worth experimenting with.

I guess you could use it with adult arcade titles as well and call your cab Bump & Hump :D

The only reason I consider the premium cost over four microswitches is the potential for the high impact tokerance being handle in their design and not having to come up with a less expensive DIY alternative, but I haven't fully vetted a DIY variant yet.

I can't imagine anyone else who grew up hip checking these things in bars gets the same thrill from having extra buttons on the side of their v-pin.
