Millipede Track Ball
« on: November 24, 2006, 11:21:47 pm »
Hey all,
I have a millipede that I have been slowly bringing back to life. I decided to start working on the trackball. I have worked with many in the past, but this one has me a little stumped. Now I should start off by saying that I have not played a millipede since the 80's except for this one. But the track ball seems like it is restricted. It does not roll very well. I inspected it and the rollers were fine. I looked at the bearings and used some teflon lube spray which made em spin nicely, but it was still tight. I got some new bearings from the Real Bob Roberts, but no good, it still feels tight. The millipede track balls are not supposed to be this way right? the ball on my mame cab spins like a champ compared for this thing.

I'm not sure if a millipede trackball is different than any others but I know that over-tightening of the plastic case on some trackballs will actually put too much pressure on the ball and not allow it to spin freely.

I have had a few Imperial trackballs and the screws that hold the two pieces of the plastic 'case' could be tightened to a point where the ball wouldn't roll smoothly.  I just had to let up on the screws a little bit and I was fine.  Hopefully it's as easy as that for you.
