Mame Cabinet Electrical Questions
« on: April 02, 2002, 12:49:40 pm »
Hello,

I'm wiring up my MAME cabinet following these instructions.

http://www.dameon.net/BBBB/buildit.html

I have everything wired up except for the isolation transformer.

My transformer looks like this

Just to make sure, are the bottom set of tabs the inputs and the top outputs?

Does my BLACK wire go to the 115v input and WHITE to 0v? (GREEN to Earth)

The power input on my arcade monitor (Wells-Gardner U5000) marks Pin 1 as HOT and Pin 3 as NEUTRAL.

Is HOT my BLACK wire and NEUTRAL my WHITE wire?

Thanks for your help! I hope I can get this project finished. I can't wait to play.

This sounds right, but I've never actually used one like in the picture.

You can test it with an ohmMeter, you should have some resistance between the HOT and NEUTRAL side on the bottom and also on the top part but not between top and bottom.

The Earth pin would probably be connected to the metal chassis around the coil of the transformer. So you could test for this buy touching the metal chassis and the pin labeled E.

Yep, the Black (or Red in some cases) wire is always refered to as beeing HOT and the White wire is refered to as beeing NEUTRAL.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply!

I was fairly certain I was understanding how the wiring all ran, but I like to be sure and ask a lot of questions.

I don't have anyone local to ask, so you guys are my only hope.  :)
