Mala Background Inop
« on: November 18, 2006, 07:26:53 am »
Hi,

I am running Mala under win98 with an arcadevga card. I am having problems getting the background of my layout to show up in Mala. It shows up fine in the layout editor, but when I run Mala itself, the background is missing, but all the text boxes are there and everything works, just the backround is blank. I have checked the path, but no luck. The standard layout background (moonscape) shows up fine. Any ideas?

Thanks,

-Dave

Common question..  ;)
There are a few posts about it.

You can operate in two ways:
1) (default) 'use layout name for directory names' With this, the layout graphics need to be in a subfolder of mala with the 'same name' as the layout. This keep the mala directory a bit more organised

2) If you uncheck this option (see pic attached) the graphics just need to be in the mala folder.

Hey loadman thanks a bunch for that.
I have a problem with the sounds in my layouts not working as well as the backgrounds.  I bet it's the same issue.  Ill post back if I get this resolved.

Thanks Loadman!!!  Effing A this was driving me INSANE!!!!

I've been looking everywhere, including the Wiki, but can't seem to find out how to get layouts to work when I have the "tree" checked.  When I used the default, all games thing, my layout (now) works perfectly but in tree mode, it goes right to the centered, generic Space Invaders one.

Hmm.

I don't use MaLa Tree but the info others have posted is here:

The only other thing is I think that you have to make sure the layout name is case sensitive. It needs to match to work i think. Maybee someone else can answer that

If I didn't have to, I wouldn't use a tree, but I'm hoping to get Daphne and pinball running, as well as gamelists for, say, "fighting games," "classics," etc.  Right now, when it starts (with the tree checked on), it defaults to the generic, centered-text, Space Invaders layout.  Apparently it's pulling from the "standard" layout file and, when the tree is checked, it greys out any other layout options I could have or make.  I have to figure out how to apply my layout to my game lists.

I'm sure it's something simple like a naming issue

I'll definitely give that a shot!  You're definitely light years beyond what little I know.
