4-way 8-way input
« on: November 15, 2006, 08:50:59 pm »
Hello All,

I am building a cocktail cabinet, and for the main control panels went with a 4-way, 8-way switchable, the Mag-Stick Plus from Ultimarc.

The joys are really good. They have a light feel that a really like, and changing from the top of the control panel without a switch or knob is nice.

My question is on the side, or third, control panel. A lot of old, vertical games had 4-way controls, and hence the Mag Stick plus. But on the side panel, facing the monitor horizontally, it seems most games are 8-way.

Are there any 4-way games on horizontal screens? I'd like to cut a corner and go with just 8-ways. Any thoughts?
I'm with stupid.

I went with 8 ways on the 3rd CP on my cocktail cab.  It's fine, IMO.  There are a few 4 way horizontal games like Elevator Action, Tetris, etc. but it's not a huge deal.

Not sure, google klov and search for games you want to play, that site has most all the info on arcade games specs you will need.

I have found playing ms pacman and games made for 4 way sticks do not respond and feel good on an 8 way stick.

That's what I found out too. I tried to play ms. pacman with an 8-way stick. Trust me, it's not doable.  Especially when you are chased by a ghost... or 4!  :laugh2:

So I ordered a pair of Ultimarc Mag Stick plus. ;D

Did you make your third control panel for players 3 and 4, or did you make it another player 1 and 2?

I want to have the third panel work for 3, 4, as well as 1 and 2. I don't know if there's a way.

Looks like a quick search turns up about 67. Whether or not you care about them, or care about accuracy with them, is up to you.

The main 4 way game I like horizontal is tapper and timber.
