4-way leaf joystick
« on: March 27, 2003, 12:50:44 am »
I'm familiar with Oscar's restrictor plates but I'm looking for a hidden 4-way restrictor plate for a Wico 8-way leaf joystick that I already own. Is there such a beast?

Pre-fab, I am not aware of. You could try something like in this post though. Could be a neat project:

Are you looking for a permanent fix?
If so, instead of drilling a round hole on the CP for the joystick to go through, cut a diamond. You would need to go small enough so that if you push the stick all the way left that it just touches the point of the diamond, same with up/down/right
I don't know how long it would take for normal use to 'erode' your cutout- obviously a metal CP would last almost forever, mdf would be about the softest.
Using a wood/plexi or lexan layered CP, you could cut the wood hole to normal 1-1/8" size and cut the smaller diamond just through the plexi/lexan

Visible wear would be covered by the plastic disk, also

The problem with cutting a diamond-shaped hole in your control panel is that if the dimensions are off by a tiny bit (someone said as little as 1/16) then the restrictor will cease to function, or won't allow the top/sides to be pressed.  If you try cutting the hole in your panel and mess up, your whole panel is scrap.  It's much better to use an add-on plate.
