Hi i'm planning to update my spinner with a new encoder wheel, how many lines should the optical wheel have to be playable on the greater range of games?
I give up  fighting keyboard dislexia, I lost.

(A song by the Kinks comes strangely to mind......)

There is no real answer to this question.  It's not so much how many spinner games you can play, rather which games do you want to play?  Up to a point, more resolution is better as it allows better gameplay with a number of titles.  If you are Tempest fan and don't care about much else, don't break your back trying to get high resolutions.  Tempest probably has the lowest requirements, needing something like only 18 apertures with a modern 4x interface.

Also, if you are only updating the encoder wheel, make sure the optics and the interface can handle the new wheel.  The spacing is important as well, so the optical arrangement will have a bearing on the exact number of lines your encoder wheel ends up with.

Good luck and happy experimenting!
