I hope he paid a lot for it and he doesn't sell it.  What an A**

I don't believe he has any intention of selling it, thus the price.  Basically he's bragging himself up.

Most bottles and jars contain at least twenty-five percent recycled Pacman.

LOL quite obviously he found this page, printed out those 'letters' (in black and white instead of color), and stuck an old Atlantis cartridge in the picture.

The ROM is there too in case anyone is interested.  Sounds like it's exactly the same game anyway, just a little harder.

ATLANTIS II

ATARI 2600

GAME

By Imagic

and

Complete Contest Paperwork from 1982

Only Ten Contest Versions Were Made!

This is an original Atlantis II game cartridge for the Atari 2600 VCS System.

The only way you could have obtained an original copy of this game is by entering the Defend Atlantis Contest and scoring over two million points on the original Atlantis cartridge the two million would secure your spot in tenth place!

Ok, down to the complete explanation of how Imagic determined who got these cartridges and how rare they really are!

The people who entered the contest would send in a picture of their score from the TV screen, Imagic preferred instant pictures with out using the flash so it would not distort the picture.

Many people entered the contest and scored BIG! Lot's and lots of huge scores were entered, there were so many big scores over 500,000 or above Imagic asked everyone who got 900,000 or above to replay the game again. Imagic never expected so many people to achieve such high scores in this game. About 60 people scored 900,000 or more. What? you may ask replay the game again? Yes they wanted those people to replay the game until they died and not stop until all lives were lost. They did not want people quitting after they turned the game over and have them say " I can play this game forever". Not only that but, many did not follow the rules of the contest and played the game on game 4 the counter does not work on game 4.

Wait a second here, after the game hits a million the score resets itself back to zero! WRONG! the game does not set itself back to zero it has a counter after 999,999 pts the score flips over to 000,001 then after the next million it flips again 000,002 then after the next million it does it again to 000,003 and so on etc... It sort of works like that with a little twist! You get my drift? While you are playing the game you won't even notice this happen due to the fast paced gameplay. Game 4 is the only game this does not happen and the counter does not work.

Most gamer's thought wth! Why am I playing this game again to keep turning it over, the people at Imagic must be insane! Imagic never told the contestants about that counter in the original game and at the time I did not know about it either. So I did what the lady at Imagic told me to do ( when she spoke with me on the phone ) keep playing until I can't play anymore and eight hours later after being tired of playing and not taking a break or a stop into the bathroom, I decided this is enough! I Quit! ( There was no pausing the game back in those days )! Besides I was going to miss Knight Rider if I didn't stop playing!

I waited until all my lives ended that had built up, it took about 20 minutes after I quit the game for those gorgon's to finish off my city. Then I took another picture of the screen like the nice lady at Imagic told me to do. I mailed my second picture to Imagic.

I quit this game with well over Seven Million Points my score looked like this 900007 the last digit represented the amount of times the counter turned and how many points I received in the game. I ended up in the top three players across the country. Only the top ten players of round two who sent their second picture of there scores in were considered for the Atlantis II Game Cartridge. All the others were now considered out of the contest! ( Yes this was a USA contest only )!

After this was done another letter was sent out to verify those contestants were able to do it again! Now the top ten only needed to play to 900,000 then stop. I don't know what the reason was for this but it's confirmed in my letters. Now the top ten needed to send in another picture of the screen yet again!

After sending in my third and final picture, I received an Atlantis II Cartridge, my conformation letters, a snorkel set that was unmarked and not any different than any you would buy in a sporting goods store ( It was a plain set ) and I never, never got my T-shirt. I'm still angry about that even after 24 years; Yes I'm still mad! The Letters I received also explained I was one of the top 10 finalists in the contest.

Ok, now we know only Ten people received this cartridge there is no debating how many original contest versions there are!

How do I know that there are only ten (10) because I was in the contest silly. I was competing against the other (9) finalists, although, the people at a well know internet site claim there are more especially those posting messages on the message boards, they are in-fact incorrect with their information. There may well be a lot of fakes floating about but, there are only ten originals.

Now we can debate this all day long but, again I was in the Defend Atlantis Contest, I know how many people I was competing against (9) others and myself ( 9+1=10 ) Do the Math! The top four players of Atlantis II were supposed to get a free trip to Bermuda to compete for Ten Thousand Dollars.

I never found out if they completed the contest going to Bermuda and that whole shootout thing but, what I heard is Imagic was bought out and the Imagic Defend Atlantis Contest was not honored by the Company who bought them! Sorry Can't mention the company's full name here but, I think the first letter of that company was an "A".

Ok how would you know you have an original??? Simple if they supply the Documentation in this auction then it's most likely original. This type of Document is hard to forge believe me fused metal in paper with a plastic coating! Moreover, I have the original postal machine stamp dated on the original Imagic envelope.

It is fitting that sites rated this a 10/10 in their rarity lists but it's more like an (11) or an elite (10) because it was never massed produced. Games Like Waterworld 9/10 and even Music Machine 10/10 have well over 5000 copies available worldwide. Atlantis II has ten Copies available, and who knows what ever happened to the other original nine copies?

This Auction is for The Original Atlantis II Cartridge and All the Original Documents that support it's originality, Including the Original Imagic Envelope and Dated Postal Stamp. Some documents have writing on the back after all I was only twelve years old and just a kid when I received these what did I know!

Buy it Now and Own a Piece of Videogame History!

This is for local Pickup only, If you have the amount I am asking you most certainly can come and pick the item up! Pickup will be held at a local bank vault where the item is kept in a safety deposit box. No exceptions to this pickup rule.

I won't be answering any ridiculous questions, so if you have a question make it good! Everything was already explained!

There is going to be a lot of complaining on the message boards about how high a price this is going for but, everyone has their price and this is mine, I earned this cartridge and it's original unlike all the fakes floating around on the internet, due to rom uploading and downloading. If you don't want this original game you can get yourself a bona fide reproduction cartridge for around 4000.00 bucks on ebay but, you won't get the docs. If you have this cartridge it's most likely a reproduction from a rom and you paid way too much!

I have explained everything to the best of my knowledge from memory so there might be minor errors in the listing but, I did my best to accurately explain everything regarding the contest and how this rare treasure was obtained.

Payment for this item is non refundable for any reason!

Payment must be made before pickup!

Paypal Only! Immediate Payment is Required! So have your money ready! you only have 12 Hrs from the time you win to pay for the item!

Item Works Perfectly!

Items are as is and Extremely Rare.

This will be the first and last time I post this item. If it does not sell you won't see me post it again!

1/10 Contest Originals Made World Wide Guaranteed!

Serious bidders only! Ebay's legal team has went after bidders who bid on high profile items in the past for loss of income and punitive damages!

This is the real deal!

Thanks for Looking.

Question & Answer    Answered On

Q:   Hallo, my name is Werner and I am interested in this game. Sorry my english is not so well. I read everything and I understand, that you only sell it to someone, if he picks it at at your home in USA? Is it also possible to send it via mail to me to germay? Next problem: I would have to pay duty/taxes on it. Could we agree, that you add a paper to it, that I bought it for a price like for example 100 Dollar? If not I would have to pay some additional hundreds of Euro. Please answer in simple words : - ) Werner
Nov-14-06

A:   You need to pick it up and no I won't send it through the mail it's too Rare and would get lost! Sorry, but you need to come here to get it.

Q:   I understand that you think this is worth that much but honestly you will never get that much money. You are asking way too much. For that much money you could have a game made up for you. This would sell for around $10,000 you need to rethink your price and remember just because there is a limited quantity doesn't mean that the value is higher. I could make a one of a kind drawing of my tv but that doesn't make it worth anything. So what make you think you will get this much?
Nov-13-06

A:   Come on 10 in the world. Moreover, it made the top ten lists of the rarest video games for any system made. I know I probably won't get this much at this time but the value has just gone way up from the 500.00 when it sold on ebay 3 years ago for the first time now it sold for more than 3000.00 last time, next time because of my auction what do you think it will sell for? This only gets listed haw many times a year? None! Every 2 years maybe someone who has it sells it but what will happen when all ten are found and those collectors won't part with them what will be the price then? Do you think they will sell them for a lousy 10K I think not? The next time this gets listed by someone because of this auction and the awareness of this auction it will sell for an astonishing amount. besides I was offered 50K for the item, think thats good? I don't. The guy offered to put 50K in my paypal account before I even end the auction. imagine that.

Q:   Would you accept a very long honey nut cheerio in trade?
Nov-13-06

A:   Remember that ebay is now monitoring my messages. can you say violation?

   Q:   is this ps2 compatable?
Nov-12-06

A:   HUH? Reminds me of something the people on digg.com might say. They are funny people like you. Too bad nobody knows the value of something. O-well! Sorry won't be answering any more questions on the item at all!

Q:   I have a cool 1.5M in cash sitting here with your name on it. Deal?
Nov-12-06

   A:   No Deal!

Q:   Wow. Nice game, but how are the graphix?
Nov-12-06

A:   at least as good as the original Atlantis

Q:   Hey, i'm pretty interested in this item, i was just wondering, can i pay in cash? i dont trust online banking...!
Nov-12-06

A:   You would need to make a deposit of at least 250,000 in paypal. the rest will need to be certified check!

Q:   Obviously this is legit as people can see that you were the submitter 3 years ago here: http://www.stageselect.com/games/game.aspx?gameid=3262&fromint=1
Nov-12-06

A:   Yeah! This is true! You know it! I love that site too! Too bad I forgot my pass to it! It used to be called fatman games! and wanted to change the errors in the site but was unable too. I also wanted to note that somebody has offered me a cool 50K here in the us for the stuff but I won't let it go for that too much history behind it! The Value of the game went way up since I was offered that 5500 back then!

Q:   Hey! Would you be willing to go as low as $1,700,000? Thanks!
Nov-12-06

A:   NO! The Price is set and firm! Sorry Dude no compromises! I had an offer as low as 5000.00 and as high as yours no I won't sell it unless my price is met!

Q:   Hi, i find it curious that you state that the item is stored in a security deposit box, for safe keeping I assume, but the photo looks like you've dropped it on your kitchen floor. for something that you consider that valuable, i think you could have taken better care of the item and provided better quality images.
Nov-12-06

A:   Item was placed on a brand new floor and yes it was removed for the purpose of taking the pictures! It's now back where it belongs and very well should be! Placing an item on the floor does not destroy it as you may think! Besides it's from 1982 and not in perfect condition anyway, My floors are so clean, I can eat off my floor can you say the same?

Q:   I was also one of the ten finalists. Sadly, Imagic did not notify me to expect the package and it was delivered to a neighbor, who gave it to me a week late. Even worse, I lost or sold my copies over twenty years ago. At the time I was living in Carlisle PA. I wonder where in PA you are?
Nov-12-06

A:   It can't be true! UPS delivered it blue label directly to your home. In-fact they made sure you got it by a follow up phone call! In fact all ten finalist received this phone call... Just to make sure you got it! So what are you saying? You were one of the ten finalists but never received it until a week later and Imagic never called you? I'm not going to be taken in by that story! Sorry!

Q:   are you serious??? I have $10 for it.
Nov-12-06

A:   I am going to post this one because it's just so stupid!

Q:   If indeed as you say - you can't tell the diffrence between an original and a fake -, and the original documents can only be authenticated by sight, do you reimburse for airfare if the prospective buyer is less than satisfied that it is the original article? I didn't get my millions by running to all corners of the globe for a fruitless search. -D.
Nov-11-06

A:   It's real! I was in the contest this was not picked up somewhere else! and yes I will give you 100% all money back including any air fair and expenses if it's not the real thing! You can bet on it!

Q:   Is it possible to come play the game BEFORE purchase is made?
Nov-11-06

A:   If you’re serious sure! But since you want the game a retainer of 250,000 will be needed! Once you agree it's the real deal I expect the rest of the payment for the item! After the rest of the payment is made then you can take the item away! This will be fair to both of us!

Q:   Hi. How about close-up pictures of the documents that are already posted on Atariage...I need to see exactly what I'm thinking of buying. Thanks again!
Nov-11-06

A:   Yep they are there and yes mine are orignal but i am not going to take new pics and not all docs are posted on atariage

Q:   Oh, one more question, what about the box?
Nov-10-06

A:   Yeah! What about it! It was nothing more than an Atlantis (ONE) Cartridge box with a sticker on the cellophane that said Atlantis II if you want a box make one yourself! I probably have the original box but I know I riped off the celephane to the box so the little generic Atlantis II Mailing label to the box is gone!

Q:   Hi. Could you perhaps post some Macro/close-up pictures of the game and all the paperwork?? Thanks!
Nov-10-06

A:   nope! That won't happen since I have documents that are not posted anywhere on the net! even in the last Atlantis II auctions they were not posted! So the buyer is in for a treat!

Q:   Sorry, one more question...could you post a picture of the game in a system being played...or perhaps a video! Thanks again:)
Nov-10-06

A:   The buyer of this item is welcome to come and play a game at my home! once we pick up the item from the bank. so there is no need to do what your asking.

Q:   Hello very cool collectable, however...last week the identical game was being auctioned and it also included the docs as well. I am very certain that it was also a real Atlantis II, The first auction went under 3K and the next time for under a 1K. So with this other Atlantis II available for Approx. 3K, why would you think someone would pay your price? Is this auction more for bragging rights? Just curious
Nov-10-06

A:   That’s a simple question! Here is your answer one they did not sell they had ungodly reserves on them! Second nobody knew that only 10 real Atlantis II Carts existed until now! This is 1/10 made if people want to accept less than what something is worth then that's their preference! Not mine! If you can get a real one so cheap I would buy it!

Q:   Hi kingmeanguns,I hope you get your asking price, but if not would you consider reposting the item with a reserve price so we could see the bidding action?(I guess the listing would be expensive, but it would be exciting!)good luck :-)
Nov-09-06

A:   It cost money to put a reserve price on the auction! In fact the higher the reserve the more money it costs just to list the item! I'm not in the business of loosing money. Sorry it’s my price and that’s what I will accept for this gem!

Q:   I know that this is a rare item, but why do you have it priced so outrageously high?
Nov-09-06

A:   It's my price! 1/10 in the world? I know of items in auctions that I thought were complete garbage that went for over a million. this in my opinion has a lot more value than all those auction items! If you had one of the worlds greatest treasures would you settle for less? I think not!

Q:   Hi, I'm federico, from Italy. My site is www.gamescollection.it Really compliments for your Atlantis II and your GREAT acution. I've a question: I would make a Special Article on my website about your cart. Could you send me 2 o 3 good pics about the materials? It will be a great pleasure for me speack about your story. Many thanks Federico
Nov-09-06

A:   No I can't thats when Original Atlantis II carts and docs start poping up everywhere! Again there are only 10 made worldwide! Thats it! 10

Q:   I was wondering what you would sell your Cart for? Thank you, Richard Lecce
Nov-09-06

A:   I wont split it up without the docs the cart is valueless to me as a company in europe makes reproduction carts from original atlantis 1 cases and yes they use mask roms in the case so you can't tell the diffrence between an original and a fake!

He really loves exclamation points. I hope he's never able to sell it at any price. I hope he takes it to his grave.

I just wish he would have explained it more. There are only like 5,000,000 words in that auction.  :blah:

I'm really interested in that long honey nut cheerio someone offered in trade.  ;)

If someone had a legitimate offer for $50k, he should have taken it. The truth is that there is very little way to mesaure what something is actually worth. What the most that a cartidge like that has ever sold for? Because that's probably what it's worth. I'm sure that figure falls way below $50K. What an idiot. People like that just tick me off. Stupid people really bother me.

With such a rare item, it's only worth what people will pay. I guess the same could be said of anything, though.

Come on guys, obviously he doesn't have the cartridge (see my 1st post).

In addition, he claims the cartridge was part of the prize, when in fact it was used as a tie breaker.  His story is not consistent with atariage, who actually had a copy of the cartridge.  From the URL listed above:
Quote
Unfortunately for Imagic, there were a lot of good Atlantis players. In fact, more than four individuals maxed out the score, so Imagic had to figure out a way to decide who the top four would be. They created a special contest version of Atlantis, that they called Atlantis II, that these top scorers would use for a tie-breaker. Atlantis II is basically the same as Atlantis, except that it's faster, harder, and lower scoring. Contestants were sent a letter telling them that they qualified for this shoot off. They were to recieve in the mail the Atlantis II cartridge, along with the snorkeling set and t-shirt. According to Imagic, "We've designed this contest version of Atlantis just for you experts. Those tricky Gorgons will still thwart you at every turn, but now the battle will be more fierce and the points scored for direct hits will be less. Are you expert enough to meet this challenge and save Atlantis from the dreaded Gorgon death ray? If you're brave enough, read on." Contestants were to play the game for only two days and then send in their high scores.

What would be funny is if someone here started another identical auction, but printed out the 'imagic letters' in color and noted that they are not 'black and white fake copies' like some other auction.  Also, offer it up at $1,500,000.   :laugh2:

That was the most annoying part of his auction and responses to questions, "that's my price." We just can't resist the urge to let him know that his price is 50 times higher than warranted (if the product is even the real deal).

Last time I checked, the higher the asking price, the higher the listing fee would be.  Does anyone know what the listing fee for 1.75 million dollars is?

And I was going to give him what he wanted plus another 50 Gs.

Just so long as he threw in his soul. >:D

I would have to agree.

The buys said they requested to be private. I wonder if that means there was a sale? It looked like it could be the real thing, but the price? Who would spend that much for a stupid game?

I know the whole back stroy behind it, but who cares? Still, it got some co-workers around my computer to skoff and laugh, and plenty of us are talking about it... :blah:
I'm with stupid.

The listing fee doesn't go up, only the selling fee. eBay would get a cut of the ending price. And before anyone goes on saying that someone should have bid so he would have to pay the selling fee, the selling fee can be removed quite easily by filing a non-paying bidder.

I'm not going to comment on the auction...

Didn't they use to charge the listing fee based on the opening bid though?  Long ago, that's why I started my auctions at a penny, no matter what it was.  Still start them at a buck myself.

I always start all of my auctions at $1,750,000 because that's my price.

His tombstone will say:  The man who didn't sell his $1,750,000.00 Atlantis II game.

Little engine that could not.
