Ultrastik 360 in 3/4 panel

If I get an Ultrastik 360 and mount it in a 3/4 wood CP should I get the longer shafts?  I am thinking I should.  Also does it use the same mounting holes as a P360?

I ordered the longer shafts for my 3/4" panel and tried the short and the long -- the longer ones were way better in my opinion (oh, I also have 1/8" plexi over the panel).  Sorry, but I don't know anything about P360s.

I mounted U 360's in 3/4" pine and went with the stock shafts but...I ROUTED out the bottom side as per Andy's suggestion. I'm liking the stick length this way and it saved me like $25 at least.

Note: To mount the stick this way I needed super short screws...For my final installation I used 6 per stick for extra hold.

For the metric impaired (like me), I believe that is  0.39370 inches.  That's not really useful either, so my funky math conversion puts it a little larger than 3/8" (0.375 inches).

Hey Donkey Kong how far did you rout and also what length screws did you use.  Were they wood screws flat/rounded?  also did you use a washer for them as well?  I have 3/4" birch.  One other question what size joystick hole did you decide to go with?  1 1/8" or maybe 1 1/4" round to stick the stick through?

So if you route a 3/8" deep hole underneath the CP it will be the same as buying the longer shaft?  Sweet - that saves me $12 or so!

It does appear that way.  That said, if you have a solid wood control panel that might be just fine, but I don't know how strong (3/4" - 3/8" =  3/8") MDF would be for mounting joysticks (with what are now very short screws).

I think 3/8" (or 5/16") is enough material to secure the joystick into.  4 screws in such a small space should hold it in place even though you don't go into the wood that deep - plus the hole you route out should stabilize it.  MDF might be a little worrysome though but if I thought there was a chance that it wouldn't hold I could always glue it in place.

It's to wire up to 8 buttons without the need to buy an encoder.  You don't need it if you are going to wire your controls to an existing ipac.

Without measuring I'm guessing I went 1/2 way or about 3/8", which would leave 3/8"material for mounting. So my screws had to be slightly less than 3/8",,,Had to use some washers as I could hardly find anything so small. You must be finicky at this point but it can be done and done well with a little searching at the hardare store. I ended up with tiny flat headed sheetmetal screws plus washers! You can add 8 screws total on an undermount of a U360. I used 6 total and the stick ain't goin' no where.

I went with a 1 1/4" size on the stick cutout which leaves plenty of extra room when round restrictor is installed. You might want to check that size if going with no restrictor as you would possibly need more room.

This is 100% true and exactly how I'm currently setup...The Ipac is cool though as it acts kinda like a keyboard. I think I heard that buttons wired to a u360 would have almost strictly in game button output and not as easily set to be admin buttons? Never tried it but there has to be a way to set U360 buttons as keystrokes.

Hey Donkey thanks for the reply man.  Once I get my big part of the cab done.  I will tinker with joysticks and scrap wood.

Off topic Jave what do you think of Gears of War.  I am loving it.  Need HD though to fully be kicking!

I love GoW so far.  I kind of stink at it though.  I'm in the middle of Act II.  You definitely need a HDTV  though to appreciate it fully.  It is the best looking game I've ever seen.
