Sam's Club - Quasicade, any thoughts?
« on: November 13, 2006, 10:12:58 am »
Just wondering if any of you guys have seen this . . .
http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=348198

and what your thoughts are on it?

Seems kinds expensive at $2,798.00, (does come with a PS2 and 250 games) Good for a home system with lots of storage and adaptable to other game systems, etc... Control panel seems 'congested' to me.

That control panel looks hideous.  I guess they want you to be able to play PS2 games, but who wants to use thumbsticks for an arcade game?  The arcade joystick is in a horrible place for a lot of games.

Saying that thing looks like ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- would be an insult to ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.  :laugh2:

I kind of like the 'furnature' look of the cabnet, it would blend in better to a family living room type of enviornment. But that control panel is aweful!

Also I don't think it'll appeal to the kids as much with that old timey antique furnature look. Kids seem to like bright flashy lights and pretty colors. This has none of that.

I saw one of these up close at a gameroom supply shop. It actually looks very well made. Unfortunately, the CP layout is kinda crappy. Plus the price is prohibitively expensive.

As wierd as those analog joysticks might seem, they're actually pretty well done. I just can't see myself standing up to play PS2 games.

On a side-note, they make a cocktail table that's absolutely laughable.

If you have to go wholesale for one, I like the one at Costco better.

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11182282

It doesn't have as many games, but at least the control panel is alittle nicer and you get a trackball for Golden Tee!  24.5" laydown monitor so you don't bash your knuckles.

The only reason I won't get one is I have a bunch of cabinets I can MAME.  All I need is time.

My thoughts? I could build that from parts at Lowes or Home Depot cheaper and better looking.

GameRoom Magazine (if you don't already subscribe, do so now) made mention of the Quasicade in their April 2006 issue. One thing to remember is that Quasicade is designed for use with consoles, including analog sticks and buttons, which acounts for the "strange" CP design.

Cheers.

Exactly. And honestly, those analog sticks are pretty cool when you see them up close. It just doesn't translate well to an arcade machine IMO.

That thing is so damn ugly, that if it was to match your decor, the best thing for your house would be a 20 litre of petrol and a match!

I can't find a pic on their website anymore but I have seen it before and I  have to say that I kinda dig the Quasicade cocktail with the angled screen.   Looked more comfortable on my old back than sitting at my current cocktail.

I like it!  :dunno  :P

But I guess I'm the only one, since even Quasicade seems to have discontinued it  :)
