Illuminated Buttons
« on: November 09, 2006, 11:05:36 pm »
Just a quick question. I've bought some 12volt LED buttons from ozstick. Can I just wire them up to 12volt on the PC Power Supply?

Cheers,

Brad

If they already have the current limiting resistor built into them then yes you can... if not then you need to know what type of LED they are and work out what current limit resistor you need to use.

I'm curious though... Why didn't you ask the company you bought them off? They will know much more about the product you bought than we do, because you really didn't give us enough information to answer the question in full.

Well I kind of thought it would be a simple question but your right. I bought the 5cm x 3.5 cm LED versions of these:

It doesn't say wether they have resistors built in but I doubt it. I will ask him and see what he says. I would assume then that I need to build a circuit as well as hooking up the PC 12volt power supply.

Cheers,

Brad

If they're a 12V bulb, then yes, you can hook it right up to your power supply.

I'd be most concerned with the draw on your PS.  Your incandescent bulb will draw ~.250MA.  Don't know about an LED bulb.
