i am having a lotof trouble with my neo geo machine..

here is the problem.

i though it was the power supply i put in the newone made sure it was put in correctly and made sure all cables and harness was secured..

i flipped the switch and i got nothing..

please tell me what to look for i see a fuse right below the monitor..could that be causing the machine to not turn on??

is it safe to change the fuse or do i have to get a pro to do it??

You can change fuses yourself, so long as you're smart enough to do it when the machine is NOT PLUGGED IN!

Here's another thought though: look for one of those WHITE switches that looks like this: http://www.happcontrols.com/powersupplies/53703100.htm

Pull on the tube part sticking out. Pull so it clicks out. Now try powering on the machine.

NO MORE!!

Yep, check the power cutoffs at the coin door and the back door... make sure they are both either pushed in or pulled all the way out (they click into position).

Of course, if they are not both there, you may have found your cause.

If you used an atx supply did you short pin 14 (PS_ON) with one of the grounds.

Should be marked somewhere on the supply what size fuse to use.  Sorry I got the idea you were using a PC supply from one of your other threads.  3 amp at 125 V sounds about the size for a 300W supply.  I cannot check as I don't have one of those arcade supplys at the moment.  Maybe someone else can guide you if you give them the make and model of the supply.

You seem to be going only be video, I would check for sound first to see if everything is hooked up right and you have a good motherboard to start with.

When the system first starts up there will be an intro jingle and then if the intro music is enabled for your game it will start playing. If you can hear any of that, then you know it is something wrong with the video cabling or the monitor.

Also, check that you are getting +5V from the power supply. It doesn't matter if you are using the new or the old PSU, but you may need to tweak it to to +5. There is usually a little metal knob on side of the PSU for this. You should still see some signs of life even with the voltage off, but worth checking.

My Big Red Neo machine had the power switch completely bypassed when I got it. It was just plug it in and go. Not sure if it's common for those switches to go bad on those machines or not.

Robot, try hooking up an ATX or AT power supply just to the MVS board and then power it up.  If you're still having problems I could probably let you test the board/game with my cab.  I live in Raleigh and I'll be back home after this Sunday.  Let me know if you're still having problems.

First of all, is this a dedicated Neo Geo? If so, is it a 4 slot or a 6 slot? Or is this a conversion? If so is it a single slot or two slot?

This all makes a difference in this power supply used in the cabinet.

I can't put my thumb on it,  but something is out of place.   This guy was wanting to build an entire cabinet with $40 recently...then all of a sudden he has $150 to buy not one but THREE arcade cabinets,  and then the next day he had the dough to buy a "brand new" arcade cabinet PSU.

Is there some chain yankin' going on here?

Yes, the service switches break all the time.  It's pretty common for someone to just take it out entirely... but just as common for it to be hanging there by the wiring in three pieces and preventing a working game from powering up.

It's always nice when you can fix these machines yourself. Congrats!
