settings to speed up gameplay
« on: October 31, 2006, 10:35:57 pm »
I've heard people say that if your games aren't running well, it could be a configuration problem.  What settings shoudl i change?  i have a 1.4ghz  athlon and mortal kombat 2 is too choppy to play? Is my computer just too slow?  Im thinking about buying a sempron 3300 which is a 2ghz. Would that be fast enough to play  area 51 and killer instinct?

mortal kombat runs fine on my 800nhz P3....i am using mame v0.37

that sucks how the latest mame runs old games like crap...take pacman for example on all versions up to 0.86??? it runs fine on my k6 486mhz..

while on the new mame its choppy and slow as hell...

here is what i do to speed things up..

change sound from 44050 to 11050 an make sure mame is the only program running.

thats all i can say.

You can also sometimes get speedups by forcing lower resolutions (try 640x480 for starters).  Sometimes 'auto' resolution will pick some high resolution and scale things, which requires much more CPU power.

this is a dedicated cab, so no other programs are running.  i got the game to run smooth(er) by changing frame skip to 4.
what do you guys think is the minimum cpu requirement for area 51 and killer instinct?

What does your OS look like?  How many processes, how much memory is used, and how much is available?  My cab is based on a P4 1.6GHz but I have 768 MB of RAM and I've shutdown everything.  I have 10 processes running consuming a paltry 50 MB of RAM.  I have a Radeon 9200SE video card and a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card.

well i answered my own questioin about the chd games since i finally found a website that has them to download.  Area 51/maximum force, don't take much processing power at all, while killer instinct i can't get to run at all, a blue screen just flashes over and over
