Opinions wanted please ... Rush series, Cruisin' Series, etc.

Hey fellas just want to kind of bounce an idea off of you guys and get various opinions.

I currently have a Cruisin' World and the Cruisin' USA board set to put in the game when I want.

I am thinking of getting rid of it and going with a San Francisco Rush (original one) and then getting the conversion kit to switch it to Rush
the Rock.  Cost should be about $800 to do this (figure $600 or so for the game and then about $150 to get the needed parts to convert it) and would allow me to play the original Rush and of course Rush the Rock.

I would think I should be able to get at least $800 or more for the Cruisin' World/USA setup.

Is it worth it to do this, are the Rush series games going to be better/more fun??

Please bear in mind that I have 2 kids (4 and 7) and they love the Cruisin' World.

I would naturally love a Rush 2049 but its just out my budget.  I would also love dual sit downs one day but that is not possible either (no
space).

Not looking for anyone to make the decision for me just looking for your thoughts.  Thanks in advance.

IMO, they're similar enough that I'd go with the least costly arrangement.  I think a lot of folks spend so much time analyzing and planning and deciding that they don't get to spend enough time playing and enjoying and having.

You win either way, they're all good games, so pick one, don't look back, and enjoy it.

I'll admit I do see this comment a lot on the ngs.  Most people constantly comment that they feel the Cruisin series is more "fun" but the Rush series is the best "driver" i.e. meaning the closest to the real thing but not as "fun".

I like both.  I think the Rush series like others say gives you a better racing feeling and is much truer to the act of driving.  Cruisin' is fun yes but the flips and run over things w/o crashing etc does have its unrealistic properties to it.

I don't necessarily disagree with that statement but I can tell you that I get to play them a lot and do enjoy them.  My thinking about this stuff happens when I am at work, driving in the car, etc and just let my mind wander on the notion.

Fair enough.  The way you said it makes it sound like you have the boardset but not a cab yet... i.e. "to put it in when I want", I interpreted that as still in the aqcuisition and planning stage.

Nope we have a full Cruisin' World.

I picked up a cheap Cruisin' USA board for about $100 so that I can swap that into the game whenever we want and thus be able to play the USA version for a while.  I am also looking around for an Off Road Challenge board to have as well and do the same thing with it.  Essentially giving me 3 games for one cabinet.

Naturally if go with the Rush instead I wouldn't bother with the Off Road Challenge board (which I have been unable to locate anyway).

Original Rush's seem to be readily available for $600 and from what I have seen it only costs about $130 to get the chips and HDD for the game to be made into a Rush the Rock, hence the $800 total.  Seems like a good deal to get 2 driving games.

Oh well I shall continue to ponder.

I enjoy the offroad games more than the standard driving through SF type games.  I'd definitely go with the route that gives the most variety as to the type of driving.

I would avoid Rush because it has a troublesome hard drive inside

I've actually been going through this same bit of thought over the past few months.  I've found that popularity seems to be split right down the middle between Cruisin and Rush.  I have a slight preference to Rush, but enjoy both and would probably be happy with whichever is available for less.  It's very common to hear that Rushes are available for $600, but in my area, I haven't found a single Rush for sale at all, let alone at that price point.  I can locate Cruisin USAs anytime from $700 to 750. 

As a wildcard in all of this, I can also have a Virtua Racing Twin *delivered* for less than what a single Cruisin or Rush unit will cost.  I'm a fan of VR as well, which makes it a good option; however, it lacks the variety that I believe Cruisin USA and Rush both have.  Team that with the upgradability of both Cruisin and Rush, and Virtua Racing becomes a tough sell, despite the low cost.

Rush is definitely a better driver.  Cruis'n is more 'fun' and there are tricks you can do, but Rush is more like driving an actual car.

Rush 2049 is my favorite driver currently, with Need For Speed coming in  as a close second.

I am leaning heavily towards make the change and if the Rush/Rush the Rock does work for me then I'll just come up with something else.

I would love an Outrun 2 but those way too much money but I have to say I really enjoy the game a lot.
