I-Pac 4 question
« on: October 28, 2006, 04:58:08 pm »
Hey All,

I was looking at the button configurations for the I-Pac 4 on the Web site, and it lists six buttons for players 1 and 2, but only four buttons for players 3 and 4.

I'm making a cocktail cabinet with just two players right now, and I want to add a side control panel with fighting game button configurations. The controls on the sides will have a simpler four button configuration.

Should I make the simple controls players 3 and 4 on the I-Pac? Will it matter when playing games? Or can you hook up six buttons to all players with the I-Pac 4?

Thanks.

Matt

The inputs are available on the IPAC/4.  I have one.  The thing is there aren't any games that use more than 4 buttons for players 3 and 4.  I asked the same questions when I started ;)

P3 & P4 6 button games do exist on some emulated games. I don't know which ones because I only use MAME, but I know they exist.....

I used the remaining 2 buttons on P3 & P4 as admin keys.

Sorry.  I didn't consider other game systems when I answered your question.

Likewise, I used players 1-4 input #8 for my admin buttons.

I guess I thought some of the fighting games required 6 buttons. I will have 4 buttons on each of the short ends of the cocktail, and then I was thinking 6 buttons for the side, larger, control panel....kind of like this.

I would think that it's a 2 player cab.  If you look at the start buttons they show 1 and 2 player.  They probably have the controls wired into the same connections though you wouldn't have to (see previous posts about mame key config).

My Opinion: K.I.S.S

The Ipac4 caters for up to four controllers, as you will only intend to have three panels that leaves you HEAPS of inputs.

So I would use P1 Stuff for P1 and P2 Stuff for P2 and when you add the third controller use inputs from P3 and P4 remembering that you can allocate the IPAC anyway you like quite easily via the software
:-)

You will regret doing that.  Friends can hit a button during a game and you can't take advantage of gamelist auto rotation in a FE like MaLa

So, if I understand correctly.....

I am using four of the six buttons for players 1 and 2. I can use the extra two from players 1 and 2 to make players 3 and 4 use six buttons. Then, when I want to play fighting games from a horizontal side, I can use the players 3 and 4 to do that?

Does that sound feasable?
