Joystick mounting orientation
« on: October 28, 2006, 01:39:36 pm »
I'm currently planning out my control panel, and was curious if the direction you mount the joystick matters or not.  I'd like to purchase the ultimarc360s, and was curious if I mount them vertically (their footprint is rectangular), if it's as simple as chaning the wiring to have them act as though they were mounted horizontally and vice versa.

Thanks!

I've seen them mounted both ways. No issues I can think of. Besides changing the wire - you can change the mapping in mame.

Good to know.  I figured mame was fairly configurable, but was worried about other emulators which may not be as configurable.  Then again, I suppose most emulators I use do have ways to change default configs.  Hmm..

Thanks for the quick reply!

You can change the orientation of the plate.   Just remove 4 screws, lift off, turn 45 degrees, put on and screw the screws back in.

I had to do this when I was swapping out for a longer handle.

2 of my buddies built cabs with the 360s.  Due to the size/shape of their CP they wanted to mount them 90 degrees off.  We simply tied the wires in such that "left" was "up", "up" was "right", etc.

Even if we hadn't you simply open the general game controls once in a game and just map everything to your setup.  I had to do this as I removed all the "special" keys and duplicates from my configuration.

The other cool thing I did was map player 3 as the player 1 left stick and player 1 as the player 1 right stick for dual stick games like Robotron and Smash T.V.  My panel is the Jakobud in-line 4 player.  I repeated the same thing for player 2 using sticks 2 and 4.  Works perfectly.

Easiest way for change mounting orientation U360:

1 .Mount joystick how you want
2. Rotate joystick's PCB
