Mala intro Videos...
« on: October 25, 2006, 03:53:02 pm »
The videos run fine in WMPlayer, but they super lag when I try to use them as an intro in Mala. Anyone ever had this problem before?

I'm not sure if this will resolve your issue, but there was a similar thread here:

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=58434.msg576329#msg576329

Also, I'm not sure, but if this is the 800mhz computer you were talking about in the other thread - it may be too slow for handling Mala and the videos? Just a thought.

Ditto.   Try the codec pointed out on leapinview's post. You need a half decent PC to run vids

The problem that I am having with DIVX is that Mala loses focus every time it plays a divx preview.  No problems with mame because they use Xvid for all the mame previews.  However all of the emumovies files are in Divx which means I can't use previews for anything other than mame.  Has anyone found a workaround for this?

I am sure if you contact the MaLa author, Swindus (I think), he will address the issue promptly. He seems very responsive to issues and very willing to help support his app.

Update:

At best and with an older version of the Divx codec the video is green and all pixelated.  It will eventually look ok but it takes awhile.  Using xvid to decode the divx files it just shows the first frame.

Using a new version of the divx codec it plays fine but the front end loses focus and the windows start bar comes up.  I have to use the mouse to give focus back to Mala to get it to work again.

So while mame runs just fine none of the consoles work (anything emumovies)

I am hoping there is a workaround or is this just a bug in the current version of Mala?  I really don't feel like re encoding thousands of my emumovies vids to work with mala.  They work fine in mamewah on the same system.

Have any of you guys tried uninstalling the offical DivX codec and trying FFDShow? It's a very popular codec pack and is often used as a replacement for the offical DivX/XVid codecs.

I tried it, it didn't work, I have tried every codec that I can find.

Is Mala not working with Divx a recent thing?  Do older versions work fine with Divx?

My question is why does a codec need to focus the start bar when playing a video?
I checked both XVID and DIVX with the mame movies and both worked for me. But I remember that I had to set some settings in the DIVX options  like 'no watermarking', dont use taskbar icon and so on to get it working.

EDIT: I did a quick search in google and there is a solution to disable the DivX taskbar icon and then MaLa works with the current divx version without loosing the focus anymore.

I couldn't get it to work for me either... I'm not even trying to use game previews, all I'm doing is using a video to start w/ mala instead of the splash screen.

The Mame vids work fine but are encoded using xvid, everything else is encoded using divx and those are the videos that are having problems.  If you would like to test one the samples at emumovies are all in Divx format.  You might want to use one of those to test with.  BTW, besides this problem, I am starting to think Mala is the bee's knees  ;D  Very nice stable front end.  I am switching over my cab and two of my friends cab over.

OK here is as close as I can get

Divx 6 doesn't work with the toolbar remover, although you can disable it but it still pops the toolbar up in mala.  Divx 5 is green blocks in mala.

Edit:
I have tried an earlier version of divx 6 and the toolbar remover worked, but the toolbar still pops up just without a tray icon.  No way to stop that that I can see.  I did find the option in the menu to not show the toolbar.  You can now hear the sound of the video but it takes about 10 seconds for the video to show.  Now I imagine that must be something mala is doing, reasserting itself every 10 sec???  Maybe if Mala did that sooner it might solve the problem?? I am no programmer so for what it's worth...

I checked it with DivX 6.4 and it works with the mame vids. Will check the vids for the other emus soon.

Did this delay ever get resolved?  Here is the problem I'm having.  Most video's (emus) run fine with no delay's, but others have the 10 second delay before they appear.  I'm still setting these up, but so far all the Mame ones seem to run fine.  Nintendo 64 are also all fine.  Genesis and Atari 2600 seem to have the delay.

Thanks in advance for the help.

P.S.  Mala front end is awesome.

I had this same problem when I only had the divx codecs installed.  The mame movies from emumovies played instantly but the console games took a few seconds (sound would play but not video) then all of the sudden the video plays.

The problem went away after installing xvid codecs for me.  This was with MALA 1.04

Thanks for the suggestion.  I think I have the xvid codecs installed, but I will check it out when I get in front of the machine.
