It's Andy at Ultimarc.   ;D

And was it Tornado Terry on Ebay?  Never heard anyone say a bad word about him.  Andy's reputation is top notch also.

A few things to keep in mind though. . .  Different companies may not be in your time zone or may be quite different than yours.   Spam filters may have blocked your email.  Someone could be out because of various reasons (vacation, funerals, family emergencies).

Your impatience will be your undoing on your project if you keep going like this.

As for a rant... given the amount of time you've given people to reply, you have no right to be ranting.

You'd have got your trackball for a lot less money from other suppliers (Some of them on here), and while Ultimarc (Andy not Adam) is a very reliable guy, the spinner you're buying from him is manufactured by someone with a less than reliable reputation on here.

Personally I think you need to slow down a bit, or your project will not turn out the way you expect and you're going to be even more "Disappointed"

Most bottles and jars contain at least twenty-five percent recycled Pacman.
And research indicates that Space Invaders are strongly attracted to people who have recently eaten meat pies.

Whoops...Andy (I knew that)....been fixed.

You are probably right Fozzy...I was just looking to get my order in sometime today for all my components as my CP will be here any day and,  well,  I am really looking forward to working on it.

PS: Hoopz - Yup...Tornado Terry...

It seems to be happening more often than it used to.  People just don't seem too eager to go the extra mile any more.

Extra mile?  You're lucky to get them to go the 1st mile any more.  We have literally begged VARs to take our money and sell us hardware and can't get any satisfaction.  I am usually better at given them more than a day, but it does seem absurd that people can't respond more timely.

You'll definitely be frustrated if you count on others to work at your pace. As I ranted a few days ago, order early and often, vendors are notoriously slow, with exceptions of course. Take that time to refine other aspects of your machine, make it glow with 'rich corinthian leather'....

it HAS been a full business day for every person I emailed..........their response time is less than optimal.
They're people!!! Not computers!!!

This is what I dont understand with you.... A few years ago everybody sent questions by POST... Remember that?? stick a stamp on send it and wait a week for the answer to arrive.

E-mail comes along and all of a sudden lots of people think that because they can send a mail almost instantly they deserve a reply instantly. .... SO WHAT! It's taken the replies more than a full business day to come to you GET OVER IT!! You're going to come up against far worse than that in the Arcade Industry, you better get used to that idea right now, or you're going to give yourself a heart attack while you're building this thing.

Call me anal,
Ermmmm OK Anal, If you prefer that then I'm sure we'll all be happy to oblige you there....

Talk to you soon Anal.

EDIT:  Lets all relax a little...in the big scheme of things,  it's not a big deal.  I just wanted to vent a little...alright?   I DID add the RANT tags.  Lets all just chill a bit.

ROFLMGDAO  :laugh2:  Says he who started this thread with a completely un-chilled rant.

We're not un-chilled... just giving you some friendly advice to chill out yourself, or you're going to waste a lot of money and not end up with your dream cabinet / game machine / arcade controls... etc etc.

Ah...but the whole idea of a RANT goes against being chilled.  I've yet to hear a chilled-out  rant....well...maybe the scene before Samuel Jackson blows away the dude at the beginning of Pulp Fiction...but eventually even that rant turned sort of un-chilled...

I have yet to have a bad transaction with any vendor as of yet. Not to say the bad vendors are not out there.

Some are slower to respond than others, but all have responded in a timely manner...even if it was not on my "perfect" schedule.

RandyT at GGG has been more than helpful and responsive to my queries. Yes sometimes it takes him more than a few hours to answer (sarcasm here) but he has always answered and provided the tech support I need to fully enjoy his products.

Divemaster and Ponyboy have been very easy to deal with.
I even got my t-mold from Dream Arcades and had a great experience there.

I think some forget that these people provide a service to the home arcade community. With very few exceptions, THIS IS NOT THEIR JOB! It is a sideline service for a niche market. Given the circumstances, I think they do an outstanding job overall. They provide good quality products, reasonable prices, get it to you relatively fast, and provide free tech support!

No quams here, but your experience may be different than mine.

EDIT - I have decided to edit my rant as it is causing tempers to flair for whatever reason.
Maybe because the people you are rantting about are respected members of this forum .

Alright...perhaps my frustration was a little pre-mature.   On hindsight,  I should have waited a little longer before expressing my frustrations.   I was a little bit peeved I had not heard from anyone (minus Ultramarc)...not just one or two companies/people.

Now that I have had time to reflect...(and smok...ahem...I mean...er)...I am sorry guys.

...and I still haven't made a decision on my spinner choice.

Wow ... glad I only saw the edited rant ...  :dizzy:

First, welcome to the boards.

Second, grab some reality ... most (in my experience) suppliers in this hobsession have real jobs and real lives and provide goodies to "us" on the side. This ain't exactly a huge market that sets vendors up for life ...or even for the next week. What do you think the margin is on that spinner you want ?

Third ... slow down ... take some time ... read some more before you buy a bunch of stuff that doesn't necesarily work the way you want. You will be happier in the end ... unless your goal is a big box of parts in your workshop ... and I have more than a few of those

I'm with Xam ... "our" vendors do a great job and have been delivering great, innovative products to us at great prices with great service. *gush*

Cheers.

You don't have anything to be sorry about Jon....   just take your time over stuff and don't expect things to happen overnight.

Spinner.... I strongly recommend you take a look at the one at Groovey Game Gear. Randy is an absolutely 100% reliable supplier and very fast to post things. I've never once heard anything bad said about him on here.

The Spinner is a damned good one too...

As I ranted a few days ago, order early and often, vendors are notoriously slow, with exceptions of course.

And, as I responded in that same ranting thread, just wait until you want something that isn't actually AVAILABLE anymore.

After all, we are talking about a phenomenon that peaked more than 20 years ago.To find parts available to the home consumer is rather remarkable.

For those who asked earlier, YES, it is vector-related, and, NO,  I don't have enough parts yet to call it a project ...

 ;D

Cheers.

You can build your own spinner....

the name of this site is BUILD your own controls. Don't forget you have the ability to not just assemble controls - you can actually make them.

Cool!

Havok receives the package, and at first glance, appears to be foolish and pays the postage. Upon opening the package, he realizes that Sharidan has accidentally sent him the very piece of wire that has been missing from the prototype of Pong since 1973. Havok promptly puts the wire on ebay and ends up selling it for 2.5 million dollars...

Haha - does this count as thread poisoning?
