T-Moulding Options..
« on: October 22, 2006, 11:41:21 am »
I am strugling :banghead: to find a router bit for my t-moulding and was wondering if anyone has ever taken a sharp blade to the  "t" part of the moulding and used a good adhesive to atach the moulding to the cab instead of the more conventional way???

I had to mount the moulding accross the front of my control panel that way by cutting the groove section off the molding and glueing it but it doesn't look as smooth as the rest which it routed. It's stuck good and proper though using Evo-Stick! (evilstick)

edit: I just noticed you're in Scotland! I got my slot cutter from screwfix but it doesn't look like they stock them any more.
Try Infinity Tools Slot Cutters

I suppose you could, but I wouldn't recommend it. This stuff is easy to cut.. In fact way to easy. I accidently cut into the front of the T-Molding my first try at adding slits to get around my first corner. Why not just order a bit online. There cheap enough. Or post a message and see if there is a fellow hobbist in your area that wouldn't mind lending you one.

I had to replace the corners on my old cabinet so they had no slot for the molding. I found it VERY easy to remove the groove section of the molding by running a razor blade flat along the molding.

I used a hot glue gun for the sections where I had replaced the wood and it holds the molding great. Looks very nice too.

Thanks for the feedback guys, i think i will go for the router and bit option. According to project arcade which i am basicly following i need a 3/32 inch bit (about) 2.4 mm .  I have got happ t moulding and would like to know if that sounds about right for the groove i need.

If your in the UK goto here for your bit http://www.rutlands.co.uk/
I ended up paying 40 quid for a bit that comes in 3 sections, they have them for 12.99

You can try   http://www.coin.demon.co.uk/-video.htm#tmould    but they usualy have limited stock. They seem to have stcock at the moment though. I got mine form Happ/suzzo but im not sure where it came from as some of my order came stateside but it was very much cheaper than above link at smooth black at 22 pence a foot. hope this helps

*Warning*
Bit size depends on where you order your t-molding from.. I ordered a 3/32" bit following the book as well. Then I ordered my molding from t-molding.com and found that the bit needed for this molding is in fact 1/16".. Lucky for me I tested my routing skills on scrap wood first.. This is when I realized that the 3/32" was too big...

I'd recommend t-molding.com as well because they will send you samples in any color that you would like completely free!
