The most frustrating thing about building a cabinet....
« on: October 21, 2006, 01:23:45 am »
1. OTHER people. We're it not for slow shipping, parts out of stock, shady dealers, rare items, and all the rest, I could have built this thing inside a month. I'm waiting on a new processor and the auctioneer just won't send it. I've waited up to 30 days for some parts.

Lesson to others, the only one you can depend on is you. Be prepared to wait for everyone else to move at their own pace. I'm so close I can taste it and it's been 8 days waiting for a cpu that's one state away....  Just thought I'd vent. It's going to be sweet, of that there's no doubt!

I know what you mean, I went through that on my last build. Now I am gathering as many of the parts and materials as possible before I start.

I got a box of stuff from GGG yesterday  :applaud: Shipping was lightning fast from them. I am still waiting on T-Molding, a slot cutter & artwork.

Gotta find a local supplier of graylite.

Sometimes I wish I had a local Arcade Parts Store.... :P

Just wait until you start working on projects where (reasonably-priced) parts come up only once in a blue moon ...  ;)

Hope you get your processor soon!

Cheers

Mine was painting the thing. .I'm a perfectionist so, I don't want to tell you how many times I sanded to start all over :D Took like 2 months!!
My old user name was marlborroman13, but I kicked the habit many years ago!

Mine was getting the computer setup and testing out all the different front ends, the endless tweaking, updating roms, etc.

 :applaud: :notworthy:

This is so true, it should be etched in stone somewhere for all to see. In big letters. Possibly on fire. With frickin' laser beams attached, even.

Mine was being so  :censored: stupid and impatient and made no plans except a rough draft.

Just by sheer luck it paid off and I got exactly what I wanted.

But its the time which is the most frustrating part, as you give yourself 3 hours, get stuck in, then look at your watch and it feels like only 3 minutes has passed before you have to call it a night.

For me it has to be knowing when to stop adding hardware and software features to my project. ;) Hmm that looks cool too.....

Mine is having a completed, functional cabinet and hardly any friends/family that are interested in retro gaming.    :badmood:

Mine is mentioning to my brother in law that I am interested in arcade gaming/ mame and would like to have a game room in my basement. Next thing I know, the guy suddenly owns 20 arcade games and a few pins. What a ---meecrob---...

The most frustrating part of building my cabinet thus far as been finishing it.   What I mean by that is that I find more enjoyment actually BUILDING,  and TINKERING with the damn thing than I do by playing it (which I still love to do also)....ahh...
