  • I want my own arcade controls!
wiring multiple inputs (dreamcast and pc)
« on: October 20, 2006, 10:49:14 am »
i was wanting to wire both a dreamcast and a pc up to my control panel
do i need to install a switch to switch between the two or can i just wire both up to the same buttons?
i was planning on doing a switch regardless but i'm not sure how i can set up like 20 switches to be controlled by one
i guess i could always just wire up connectors (like the molex ones on arcades, but more likely printer ports)
i guess while i'm asking, has anyone wired up p360s to a dreamcast?  i'm not totally sure where i should draw the power from
thanks

Go with Xarcade's control system, works for mame and dreamcast + XBOX + PS2/1 + GC with adaptors. I am not sure (probably not) that the 360's will work as they require USB input, but any traditional 4/8 way sticks (mag stick/happ ultimate, etc) that wire to arrows will work.

I am interested in if I can hack apart a saturn controller and attach it to my controls directly along with the Xarcade system (so I can play virtua fighter et al)...

Well shoot, if you want to play Virtua fighter it was made for the pc. I have it laying around somewhere in my parents house, but I doubt I'll ever find it.

You can buy adapters to use DC controllers or PS2 controllers with a Saturn and use an Xarcade adapter. But yeah you should be able to hack the controller if you wanted to go that route as well.

Yeah I just went ahead and did just that with my X Arcade system and it works very well, I have DC, PS1, Xbox and PC all hooked up to a serial 4 way switchbox.  The DC was a fun one as I have a VGA out box that is hooked to a 2 way VGA switchbox to the TFT and a 4 way video switchbox to the Nvidia/TV.

I didn't have too much room on the game console shelf so I mounted most of the switchboxes on the side of the cab (I use particle board for the sides) and it works a treat.  The audio is pumped though a home cinema system.  Dig dug never sounded so good.  ;D

The PC has a Nvidia FX5600 Home Cinema card you can get at www.morgancomputers.co.uk which works a treat, but still a bit fuzzy for composite output.

I just bought a Magic VGA converter off Ebay. Xbox, Playstion and the laserdisc player all work flawlessly on the TFT.  I get  some background noise but I'm using cack wires and not S-Video.  There is a VGA pass through for the PC.  PAL/NTSC up to 1024x768.

It blows the Nvidia cinema idea completely and doesn't goof my X Arcade Controller, as it freaks it everytime I live switch it to another console and back to the PC.  Apparently you can blow it up. :o

So if you have an arcade cabinet with multiple consoles like me, snag one of these beauties for 36 nicker off ebay.
