Hey Angry Radish, could you put those prices up on the auction section of the WIKI. If you are not up on WIKI, I'll do it for you. Did you by chance write down descriptions as to quality of the machines. From Drews remarks, sounds like there was some termite heaven there. Pix?
Nothing horrible as far as damage like THAT, anything there that had any damage is from usage, like a MonacoGP with the whole top plexi cracked, seats tore up on a sit-down where you'd expect them to be tore up, crappy sides from being stacked up side-by-side, etc. In the pics radish took, I can't point 'em out unless you met me in person, but there's about 7-8 ops that consistently show up at these things. Looking at the prices listed, my guess is the Centipede's were all picked up by an older dude in a blue jacket with some white stripes down the side. I get the distinct feeling the guy doesn't possess anything BUT that outfit

He's an op....a TON of these games are often route games these guys simply bring in to trade around and if they lose one - oh well. Our auction also gets a lot of re-sells, meaning they were there at the last auction, they'll most likely be at the next auction, and the one after that, and the one.... so....
ANd I thought it was illegal to sell MAME machines... How does that work exactly. THe one went for 800 and the other for $2000.... Sheesh. THey specifically were calling out how many games it had and things like that.
Was it specifically a MAME machine. Many times you will see them marked as Multicade and stuff like that. Saint saw one machine that was being sold by a guy selling "a custom front end". Saint knows the guy who wrote it. I went to get a picture of it, but it was turned off by that point.
Here's how ours works. Unless someone SPECIFICALLY complains about the machine prior to the auction, they don't want to pull it whatsoever. SuperAuctions really DOESN'T care, they simply want to make money selling these things. The MAME machines typically bring in between $800-2500 depending on the quality of the build, and SA gets a bigger chunk of money than the typical $500 game. They pulled a MAME machine here a few auctions ago, and did it one other time I can remember, but that's it.
Man, sorry I missed this one.
(Had some family obligations to tend to)
I was asking around about the generic black MAME machine at the last auction. I guess some guy and his kid build one for every auction, and it always sells around that same price.
($800-900) What was the $2000 one like? It wasn't in a Tron cabnet was it?
IIRC, there's a skinny older dude with his 16-17 year old who is the one selling these. You'll know them because they're the ones that don't look like ops (the ops are usually talked to by name by Fred the auctioneer) but they snap up ANY cab that they can get for under $100.
My guess is they also made the Tron-looking one. All the graphics are MAME done in Tron style. That's about the 3rd or 4th one. The reason I believe it's the same folks and not a resell is that each game looks progressively better. The first TronMame I saw sold for about $800 and looked like it had a few lame stickers thrown on there. That one there looked like a "professional" game.
My guess is that they've made up some sort of "install" disc for their front end where they simply copy everything over from a CD and "BAM!", instant "arcade game". With the small number of games they had at this one, I'm certain that even if someone had complained, they'd have made some vague excuse and still tried to sell it.
Usually though, how these are sold is with the few legally available roms on them and a note that Fred makes sure to announce about "seller states hundreds more games available and if requested, will show buyer how to set up and obtain them".
