With halloween right around the corner, it's somehow fitting this has become an issue.
My cabinet has now turned itself on 3 times for no apparent reason. It's only been built for about a week and a half. It was on when I woke up this morning. The second time it came on by itself I was standing about 7 feet away, and *poof* it turned on, sure enough. Fortunately, I looked at my wife and said "Well, I guess I have to play a game now...." But I digress.
The cabinet is not hooked to the internet or phone (just a power cord connects it to the outside world) and I don't have a wireless network.
It's an old MOBO, ASUS P3V4X, which apparently has some type of infrared something or other on it, but it's never been used and I used the computer while it was still in it's case for 2 1/2 years without it ever turning on automatically.
All I can figure is that some random ambient noise is of the same frequency as the IR receiver on the mobo. Maybe I can turn that off in the BIOS?
Possibly the TV remote (about 25 feet away, through a wall and a bunch of crazy angles)?
Is it even possible that there is a short somewhen in my system that's causing an arc somewhere?
Anyone run into something like this?
