Want to start A jukebox project but..
« on: October 16, 2006, 03:17:49 am »
Looking for the right software.. I want to go linux if i could but there isn't much in the line of jukebox software for linux.. I have a design drawn up.. but the main thing is figuring out what to use.. I have tried SK Jukebox.. Really nice program.. but it's windows only..  Uncle Ts was nice.. but I mainly have albums on the system.  I have tried Silverjuke.. its ok.... but these are all windows programs.. even Virtual Jukebox was ok.. but I want to run Linux due to its low demand on resources when running..  Let me know what you think about this.

Try this Forum link.  Lots of info on linux distros and players in use for carpc's.  Not quite jukebox but close.

An obvious question, but, Have you tried any jukes with WINE under linux?

I know it's not nice and wont really help with the low demand on resources, but if you find a nice windows jukebox - it may be just worth it.  ;D

If you want low demand on resources, why would you go with Linux over, say, DOS?

That said, look for GlobeCom Jukebox at http://gjukebox.sourceforge.net/ ... that's Linux-based.

Yes Chris thanks for the link.. gonna try that out..

as for using dos.... I don't have any DOS OS disc's anymore.. got rid of them years ago..
Windows was ok.. but ran things slowly on the system I am using for the jukebox (even reformatted and re-installed the windows it was using (win98se) and it still ran slow.. .. I have since installed Mandriva One.. and the system runs super fast now with no probs. Thats why I am using Linux..

Will try the link Chris and go with that.

My jukebox is not linux, so you might not care about my jukebox for that reason ... although I did want to mention something.

For those users who do not have videos, you can simply keep the jukebox on the ALBUM tab all the time.   The jukebox shows the song queue on the ALBUM tab and allows song selection as well, so the user can stay on the ALBUM tab pretty much all the time.....
