System Difficulties
« on: October 12, 2006, 01:50:43 pm »
We are experiencing system difficulties right now. Users are having problems logging in, resetting passwords, logging on to the Wiki, and news updates are on hold.

They are being worked on, please bear with us. This site is a labor of love and volunteers, so working on it has to be mixed with real life which takes priority.

If you are currently able to log on to the message forums, I advise against logging off for now until this is resolved.

Thanks for your patience!

I'm having trouble posting more than a couple of sentences, cut 'n pasted from notebook, only a small bit posts.  Any ideas (other than STFU  ;D )?

Thanks, ARCADIAC!

Certain symbols are truncating posts. SirWoogie's looking into it :(

I think this is a UTF-8 conversion issue. The database software has surpassed the forum software in compatibilty, and it's throwing it off. I'm working to get a nice full backup of the forum database and convert it all over. This, I am thinking, will eliminate the truncation of the messages. I plan to do this sometime Sunday. It shouldn't be much of a disruption to the runtime.

It looks like there are still some unresolved issues. I just tried to send another member a PM and I got a message saying the member didn't exist.  :dunno

I'm sorry for the delays. I've not been able to track down exactly what this error is. Be assured we are still working on the issue.

Glad to see you back in. The problem is, I still haven't corrected the root issue. :) So, why you're working now is a mystery to me at the moment.

Just so everyone knows, I am working with the vendor of the forum software to uncover the glitches. It is simply slow going since we have to take baby steps so as to discover the real problem and not have a repeat performance.

We have done a full database upgrade with the hope this would fix some of the issues. It regretably has not fixed them. We are continuing to work with the vendor of the forum software to rectify the situation. We appreciate the continued patience.

I'm getting farther with the vendor. I have fixed the registration problem (somewhat). The registration form creates the user, but it produces a false-positive error about cookies. The account is created and works with test accounts I have tried. I will work to see why we get cookie errors.

For those of you that have trouble logging in, please test out your account now. If you still have difficulty, let us know and we'll reset the password to see if that clears any issue with the password fields.

Several data columns in the memory table were improperly sized. The table is quite large, and there were variable names that didn't stand out to me. Most notable was the use of varchar() sizes on the password and password salt fields; and the fact they were incorrect.

We don't have a reason why they changed, but only that they did not reflect the install SQL statements. I went in by hand and verified the sizes.

On Friday my company updated our virus protection program.  When I ran it, it removed all of my cookies.

I wasn't allowed to log on.  I had withdrawals for the rest of the day. Over the weekend I realize this could be a blessing in disguise. I'd actually be able to get more work done which could lead to a bigger raise.

I came to this site just to read what the word was on the ps3 and wii(to use the site for an actual video game reference), but you guys fixed the log in problems.

There goes my "be more productive at work" new year's resolution for 2007.

Thanks!

I am able to log in with IE, but I get a cookie error when trying to log in with Firefox. I checked out my cooie settings, and everything is just fine. I am guessing this is the "cookie" problem you referred to, Sirwoogie?

I had problems logging in this morning with that same error.

Clearing the cookies solved it.
