« on: October 11, 2006, 08:08:46 am »
Not sure if this has been posted (I'm sure it has, you guys are good at stuff like this)

But I found a plug n play Golden Tee here  http://www.kbtoys.com/genProduct.html/PID/4728908/ctid/17/INstock/Y/D/
(someone shorten that for me :) )

If this is old news then I apologize, I been outta the "loop" for a bit but ran into this while Xmas shopping

wow... curious how good the trackball is.

I could see getting one of these to go with a bartop cab or something like that and hack it to a mouse... and just plug that into your bartop.

It's pretty terrible.  Clearly based on an NES-on-a-chip, and the trackball sucks too.  The golfer doesn't even swing in real time.

You're better off playing Golden Tee 2000 in MAME: the graphics are better and the trackball is far more responsive.

I came across this topic in a search, as I didn't want to double up on the topic if one already existed.  I'm not a Golden Tee player, but if I see something that looks hackable, I'm gonna look into it.

Was the trackball just chinsy plastic with no weight or spin that wouldn't be worth the money if it were on sale at $20 or less?

The idea sounds pretty neat to me, but it's all about playability. The screen shot looks good, but if the tackball doesn't work well then I wouldn't bother. Plus that's just one game that I think would play better standing up in front of an arcade machine.
