Help me decide which monitor to use!!
« on: October 10, 2006, 08:33:35 pm »
Hey guys, im about 90% done with my mame cabinet.  i've been waiting patiently for over 1 month now for my greylite 14 to come in, which hopefully should be in this week.

My question is on which monitor should i go with?

Right now i have the insignia 27" crt running component cables,  i could squeeze in a 27" lcd tv as well.  i have until friday to return the crt if needed.   Im really torn if i should keep the crt or go with an lcd.

i know some people said that viewing an lcd through greylite 14 may have some issue because the lcd isnt as bright as an lcd.

The second is authentic looking display.  with the lcd i could hook up either component or vga.  i know the vga sharpens everything up greatly, but it might be too much.  im not sure, thats why im here!

The crt looks pretty good, it does have a bit of color bleed, but i fixed that the best i could with the color and brightness settings.  also i have to worry about the magnetic field problem, but i know bucking magnets fix that.

I paid $199 for the crt, the lcd would cost around $600,  is it worth the extra $400??

Here are the system specs just in case:
pentium 4 2.8 ghz
1gb ram
sound blaster compatable card
bfg geforce 7600 gs oc 512mb video card with component output (This card actually bumped up my frame rate in chd games, carnevil runs at 25fps instead of 20)
running windows xp pro with mame 32 and gameex for the front end.

Your advice is greatly appreciated.
