Some people have been looking for laptops or LCD panels for different projects. Well I have some laptops that I'm willing to sell for the cost of shipping.

Heres what I've got-
Compaq Contura 430c, 486 100mhz, color, 32mb ram, 700mb hard drive
AT&T Globalyst 200s, 486 75mhz, color, 20mb ram, 1.3gb hard drive

I have a pile of these but its first come first serve. Please don't message me with a bunch of questions. You either want them or you don't. All I guarantee is I've tested them and they boot up.

I'd like one of these please assuming shipping is reasonable. USPS is best into canada, marked "Gift" is ideal as well.

They have ac adapters, they do work. Let me sort through the above list and anyone that has emailed me or PM'd me and get back to you all. I think I have enough to cover everyone thats asked so far. If I have any left I'll post another thread.

These dang well better not be magically appearing on eBay in a few weeks!!!

(No, I didn't request one, as I can't see myself using one. Just hope that those that did intend to use them in a system, because it appears the Compaqs sell for around $100 and the AT+T's for around $50, as it seems a lot of "newbies" requested one, at least publicly).

I doubt you'll get a 486 with only 32 MB of RAM to emulate Pac-Man...

At least with current Mame .66

You'll have to go back to at least version .34b-something (before they changed the pallete depth stuff--perhaps .54 actually) in order to run stuff on this old of a system.

Of course then you have to find the roms that match the system because I recall a fair amount of old 8bit sets were changed around that time as well.

But yes, it could work, if you use an old enough version of mame, and the Dos version only (obiously). No windows for sure.

You might want to check out VAntAGE, take a look at these benchmarks:

It'll run Pac-Man at 225 FPS on a 486 with just 16mb ram.
Not too shabby at all, but it only handles classic vertical games.

That page also has MAME benchmarks and every game listed runs at at least 42 FPS.

I have a 486-100 laptop, and it does run nesticle and Vantage games full speed.

BUT. Those old color LCD screens were not made with gaming in mind and you don't have a lot of resolution choices and EVERY game is going to still look a bit jerky even at full speed because of the LCD screen. I can't really describe it, you would just have to see it, games with fixed screens and moving sprites aren't too bad (Zelda, Pac-Man), but anything with a scrolling screen will just make you sick looking at it (Excitebike, MegaMan 2).

That's really the idea Peale... That is their only real use. Even so, if thier batterys are dead (which they more than likely are) than even that use is comprimised

It is always cool when people give stuff away though.

I use mine for some gaming, but mostly for downloading. I will drag it to work and download things onto it off the t-1 and then transfer the files when I get home. It is still actually a pretty decent computer. It even plays mp3s pretty well (using some DOS mp3 program, and for some reason you have to play them all double speed for them to be normal speed, but it works).

You know let him do it at his leasure... or not at all if he doesn't want to. It is a lot of work to pack up and ship all that stuff. Offer him some nominal amount of cash and it may speed up the process
