Here are 3 pics of my panel. I hope they address what you need ... if not, let me know.

23" wide
8" deep
3 7/8" high
5/8" lip

Incline from the horizontal when the panel is installed is 5 degrees.

Cheers.

Awesome Cheffo,

One more question. How does the bottom lip attach to the cab?
Is there a slot? Or does it just sit on top of the front of the cab? I can't see no screw holes for it to attach to anything.

No slot per se, but the kickplate is routed along the top edge, which has the lip resting on the top of the routed portion and against the back.

That is, there is an L shape when looking lengthwise down the top of the kickplate and the lip rests in the angle from the top right.

If that doesn't make sense, I'll take a picture tommorow, but be warned that the original kickplate on my Galaga has water damage and has come apart, awaiting replacement once I haul my table saw out. I can't even get good meaurements on the routing.

Cheers.

Thought it must have been something like that.

I think I will slot the top of my kickplate and add an extra bend to the control panel so it sits in the slot.
Nice and simple.

Weird, my CP has a little metal plate sticking out in the bottom middle which fits behind the "wood".
NO MORE!!

My (repro) Galaga panel has the same thing, but an extra bend achieves the same effect.

FWIW my panel is actually 23 1/16", which only matters if you're going to use the real thing as opposed to making your own. Now hurry up and build it, I'm starting mine and want to crib ideas from you!  >:D

Haha, no worries, I'll be lucky to have my sides cut out of MDF by then, I only have a few hours a week to dedicate to this stuff now. I would seriously be interested in documentation of your process though, I admire how neat your builds are and I'm aspiring to a much more professional outcome than my last cab. Of course this was a few years ago and I had no idea WTF I was doing...  :-\

LOL. If it is another build like the Kong, then things should go pretty smooth. And Galaga is all black so the sprayer will be going flat out!.

Won't be for another week yet sorry.

Thanks for the comments. I will document the main assmebly parts of the build. There probably has been a few Galaga/Ms Pac builds on here but I will do my best to keep track of things.
Don't be surprised if I do a couple of things different from the original though.

Good luck with your next project. Following guys on this site can be inspirational and you can pick up some handy tips. Please feel free to ask questions as I go. I am more than willing to help and share if I can.

No...there hasn't really been a Ms. Pac build on here, that's why I requested that you dazzle us with one. Thanks Spacies.

There was a nice Galaga build by whoever did that slick modern Centipede cab, blanking on the name at the moment, but he stopped his project log mid-way through.

My Galaga style cab is going to have some modern touches, mostly in that it's a little taller (1") and deeper (2") to accommodate a larger monitor and the marquee is about 1/3 shorter. You can see why I'm doing this if you play the 25th anniversary Galaga/Ms. Pac-Man with the 25" monitor and see how the viewing angles are not so hot. It's easy to stand in such a way that you can't see the top of the screen for instance. If anyone is going to do something larger than the original 19" monitor you should think about doing something similar. I've got a file where I worked out the various viewing angles if you anyone needs to see what I'm talking about.

Thanks for the tip.
I made the plinth on the Kong cabinet 2" taller than the original because it was just down too low.
I also made it a tad wider too because of the way the sheets of MDF are sold.
The 26" tube I put in there is a perfect fit at a 45 degree viewing angle.

I would be interested to see your file.
Please email to: info@spacies.co.nz

Not sure if I am going to put big screen but still would like to take a look.

It appears that I didn't save the version I thought I did, so I mocked it up again. Not sure if you have Illustrator, so here's a JPEG. Let me know if you want me to e-mail you a vector version, PDF or .AI.

The monitor is roughly placed, but to scale and is sized for a 27". The red and green lines are sight-lines for both the standard 9" tall Midway marquee, and my chopped down 6" version. You can see how radically that affect how you can view the top portion of the screen without hunching way down. That's a 6' figure, lowered slightly to factor in looking down and leaning a little.

Thanks for that.
I can see what you mean. Having a big screen lying down like that will cause a few probs and a sore back and neck.

I think I will stick to the 20" and keep the marquee the original size.
I might angle the monitor shelf up a little bit to help with viewing, maybe an inch or 2, but can't say until I have it built 'cause I haven't seen an original........yet.

I do have another 26" here but will save that for another Kong cab as the tube is at a 45degree angle.

Thanks again.
