I shoulda been more clear about that, I'm using the rather large Happ translucent buttons with the rather large leafswitch conversion brackets.

Which work great but look like crazy madness under the cp hehe. Not sure if the litemites would work well with those? I know the new GGG Novagems are the same button though, I was thinking on saving up for them. If I had traditional leafs the litemites certainly look excellent.

The side Art that Melissa made for me is just glued on. It was glued on to bare wood though. I would think that some type of strong adhesive might do the trick but I'm no expert. However my stuff feels like it would survive a nuclear blast and still be attached.

Gurilla Glue maybe?

I would definitely NOT glue the side art carvings to the cabinet. You never know if you are going to want to build another cabinet or sell the one you are building now - it would be a shame to have to ever part with that awesome sideart.

Haha! Yeah I don't wanna risk any drilling into the sideart, and while glue would affix it nicely I'm sure, the ability to make the side art removable would be cool. How about industrial strength velcro?

I was going to mention velcro. I have a buddy with a huge slickstick CP and it is held in place on his cab with velcro. Doesn't budge during agressive gameplay. I'm sure it would hold the sideart up fine. However, it may stick out more than you would like. If you are concerned about removability, try those 3M thingies that you pull the tab on when you want to remove them. They have some designed for pictures that are actually velcro.

Why not just screw it on from the inside of the cabinet?

That way if you ever need to remove it you just unscrew it and it is still in perfect shape.

Haha sweet! I think they sell Punch-Out coasters even too. I got these on ebay a little while ago, from the 80's and still sealed hehe:

The pac-man marquee I just got too, the white on it are bits of packing peanuts, it's in really good shape, i was thinking of making a lighted sign out of it, and then making a pacman from scratch someday. One small note, I changed the player 1 joystick to a green balltop, not that big of a deal, but I think it looks much better.

Thanks WaRpEd, I decided to try GroovyGameGear's ButtonBlaster led's after seeing how well they worked on Jeff AMN's Project. Here's the result which I think speaks for itself! These leds are awesome! It was my first time soldering, not pretty, but got the job done. I drilled a 3/16 hole in the bottoms of the buttons and cut off the top part of the Leafswitch brackets with an exacto knife:

Wired em up to a 5v/ground off the pc power supply and:

I used a leftover 4 led for the trackball, wired off the coin door lights. The leds are so bright that they attract moths and little bugs which usually collect in the light of the cieling fan lol... they don't call it "Buggs Island Lake" for nothin down here in southern VA. I also applied the excellent K.O. vinyl sticker that Mike Deuce made, I could get this button brighter I think, but its ok for now:

Being a kid born in June of 1976 I love seeing projects from around my youth. I might have grown up, almost 31 now, but my childhood memories of my Nintendo NES are still deeply rooted inside me.

Growing up in So California on those hot summer nights playing Mario, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Zelda and Final Fantasy was the time of my life.

I am glad to see that people like you are keeping the memories alive and well. Keep up the awesome work!!!!

I'm just about the same age and I agree totally except that I grew up in Mystic Connecticut, so instead of heat it was cold and snow days staying home from school... or actually whenever it rained too, I never went to school when it rained.

But yeah I really like arcade and NES games equally, I definately split time between the two, back then and even now. I can remember running home to play Zelda in 6th grade, filling a tall glass of blue Kool-Aid and spilling out the map across the floor... then skipping school to finish it and kill Gannon hehe. Come to think of it, there was so much quality entertainment then, NES just came out, arcades were flourishing, GI Joe and Transformers toys and tv shows, plus being 10-11 yrs old and having close to zero worries and bills hehe. I also remember Nintendo Power magazine when it just came out around then, man did I buy into the hype when they previewed games, I was bouncing off the walls in anticipation of SMB2, Simon's Quest and The Adventure of Link to name a few. I actually just bought a copy of the first issue off ebay it was funny to see all the old ads and features again, I'm pretty sure its available scanned on the net too. Only last year did I fire up Nestopia for the first time, couldn't believe it!

If you like the nes nuances in this project you gotta see my next bar top, I'm probably a month away or a little more from unveiling it

The Pinewood Princess's side-art arrived and the cab is physically finished!! I was like a kid on Christmas morning opening it up:

Attached with velcro, it looks just awesome, I especially like how the sides of the letters were painted white, it totally goes along with the tmold:

Only downside right now is the way the cab is situated in a corner, only one side is readily visible, I installed the art on both sides still, but since I'll be moving in the coming months that will eventually change. Special thanks to Melissa for making this Punch-Out style cab extra awesome

Wow, can't believe its physically finished, although something tells me that KO button may morph into a spinner at some point

I am always amazed at what Melissa is able to do with a dremmel and a paint brush.

I have to say that your work on this machine is immaculate as well as intuitive. I also think that you were able to build it very fast. I know you would have been able to say complete a lot faster had Melissa been able to deliver the side art sooner. Thank you for your patients with the delayed delivery.

Now I need to say a little about Melissa on this project. It was very challenging for her. Letters & signs are tough for her to carve. We did not keep track of how much time she has into the two pieces total but it was A LOT! The Punch-Out project was a little frustrating for her, but she pulled through quite well as she always does because of her amazing amount of patients. She has been watching the forum hoping you would make a post with pics of the side art. You really made her day. She has been looking at the thread for hours straight. She is proud to be a part of the project and to see her work actually on the cab!

Cheers to Soda, Melissa and anyone else involved with this build. Nicest work I have seen for quite awhile!

Is it because of the straight lines? Use a chisel and mallet instead of a dremmel for those.

Haha that was sweet thanks for the link, it really puzzles me why they let go of this franchise or seemingly have. I mean think of how perfect Punch-Out would be on the Nintendo DS, or Wii for that matter with some old favorites plus new boxers. A new Punch-Out for the DS could come with the original dualscreen arcade games too, I bet it would sell pretty well.

Sodapop. where did you get your T-molding? I always thought Nintendo T-molding was a bit different than "normal" T-molding.

T-molding.com has 9/16" white flat Nintendo style, I actually started the sides of this cab with 5/8" particle board but didn't have quite enough and the particular kind I had wasn't great to work with so I used 3/4" MDF instead for the sides. The tmolding on the Punchout cab is 3/4" regular white.

Thanks man. I have my eye on a Popeye that has been converted to a Mania Challenge. I would like to turn it into a Donkey Kong, so I am tracking down parts to see how difficult a project this will be.
