I know that this is nearly spam, but I hope to find and build a closer canadian community of folks with this hobby.

A couple of guys have a really good forum at www.arcade4all.com.  The homepage is no heck, but there is a lot of good info in the forums.

So if you're a canadian memeber and you face the same problems that we do, like duty on arcade parts from the USA, or distant suppliers, or a lack of shops/suppliers etc in your area, please drop by there and intro yourself to help discuss these problems.

Me? I'm in Ottawa (where the site is founded), which just happens to be the National Capital (for non Canadian readers.... and maybe a few Canadian readers ;)  )  I built my own cab from scratch and I used a Toronto suppler called Starburst Coin Machines as well as Andy from Ultimarc.

Most of the Canadian people into arcade machines, seem to hang out a www.cgcc.ca/forum

There are a couple on here that are also on that board.  It's been around for a bit, and a lot of helpful / smart guys on there.

CGCC is where I normally hang out as well. There is also a very active community at www.maaca.net as well, serving the Montreal and Ottawa area.

Same deal here ... I lurk at MAACA (and RGVAC and KLOV) and ocassionally stop by Arcade4All, but my normal haunts are here and CGCC. I live about 2 minutes North of Starburst in Toronto.

As far as customs and cross-border shipping goes, here is a invaluable reference:

Hey Mark70:

To make you feel better, at least you're not up North like myself.  I'm in Timmins, ON.  It's about 9 hours North from Ottawa.  There is very little up here for arcade\pinball parts.  I found ordering online is the best way to go.

There is a premium to pay because of where we are (border fees, etc..), but I just think of it as an added cost of this hobby.  There are some great trustworthy people online that cater to whatever you might need for this hobby, like Andy.

For your area, I would look up ccgc.  I did read there are some people from the Ottawa area that post on that forum that might have spare parts or other stuff....

A trip to the Starburst Auction could be worth it if you guys rented a truck and shared the cost... you could pick up a lot of cheap cabinets to restore. Or even buy nicely restored cabs off people who attend from CGCC (if any are for sale of course)...

There are some people in the arcade part of the forum that are in Ottawa/Montreal i believe.

Small consolation!!  We even built a museum for her.  She officially opened it like 3 years after it opened.  That was a good $$ million(s) investment.   :D

Hi,

I am new here but have been lurking around this site for a few years now.  Thanks for the links.

I am in the Kemptville area (South of Ottawa).  It looks like BamBam and I are in the same area.

Cool.  Less than 10 kms away from me then.  I am only in the planning stages right now for my cabinet and starting to gather pieces for it.

Good luck with your project.  You are at the right place for help.
You may want to consider tracking down Canadian suplliers for the arcade goodies as Canada Customs hammers you when they ship supplies across the border.

For all of you guys near Ottawa, I went to the MAACA meet on October 14.  Those guys had about 30 pins set up.  There were a couple of vids.  They go all out.  The event centers arounda pinball tournament.  They did a couple of pizza runs.

Sales of vids and pins go on before, on the MAACA boards, and during.  Plenty of purchase opportunities.  Some guys sold machines before then brought them to the meet.

Check it out.  Especially you guys who are close to Ottawa, in Kemptville.
