Too nice for mame stuff.  The computer is hidden inside the arcade machine and nobody will see it.

Use that for your desktop gaming computer.

Personally I would rather have a desktop case for in a cabinet so that it can sit on a shelf high up off the bottom and still have the optical drives the right way up.

There are some nice mini atx cases as well, but most seem to need low profile cards which limits the selection of vga you can use.

I'd probably jump on that if it included the fans.

i mount all of my components to the inside of the cabinet, i figured that way there is more airflow around the pc and less of a chance of heat related problems.

It's just easier.  Did you really decase your Mac just to put it in your cabinet?  Also, when upgrading/replacing my desktop computers, I usually rotate the lowest end one from my desktop to the MAME cab.  I've never had any issues with heating...so other than cooling, what is the benefit?  Just seems like more work, and less flexibility when you want to replace something or need to work on it.

Yes I did. Do you find this to be suprising? It suprises me that someone would actually purchase a new case, install a system in it and then set it in the bottom of the cab.

Well as I mentioned, I buy the new computer for my desktop and move the oldest remaining desktop to the mame cab.  So the case is really for the new desktop, but eventually ends up in the cabinet (or for someone in my family) when it's the oldest.  So is there any other benefit to removing the case besides cooling?  I'm honestly curious.  If you weren't having cooling issues and this is a normal sized cabinet, then yeah I'd be surprised you would go through the trouble to remove the already existing case and screw the motherboard into your cabinet.

Yeah, how does $5.99 sound?  I picked one of these up recently...

Yeah, I know.  It's orange.  But it certainly is cheap.

It's not a great case, but I've definitely seen worse.

I like having a cased computer inside my cabinet.  It helps to deflect the woodchips and dust when I stick my drill inside the cabinet to make some holes for a random upgrade.   :banghead:

removeing the sides of your case would have had the same airflow effect as haveing the components mounted inside the cabinet.

The added advantage of haveing a case is being able to remove the pc if its needed elsewhere for whatever reason.  Upgrades and repairs are nicer too if you can do them on a table rather than haveing to do them inside your cabinet

Too bad it's almost $20 in shipping. I guess I will keep mounting them to the side of the cabinet.

Often computer cases are specifically designed for proper airflow. Removing the case will not always lower the temperature. The second thing to think about is electromagnetic interference. The case is the only thing stopping it.

I would prefer to leave it in the case!! :soapbox:

Plus I heard from a friend of a neighbor who has a cousin who works with this guy who's wife left, dog ran away, lost his job, and got the flu, all because he removed the PC from the case.
