cocktail kits
« on: October 04, 2006, 02:22:34 pm »
I'm starting to read BYOA, and I'm leaning toward a kit from arcadedepot.com.

Has anyone bought from them, or can recommend a different company? The prices seemed pretty good on arcade depot, about $240 for a basic kit with shipping.

I'd build from scratch, but I don't have the saws needed.   :banghead:

I think you can still do a nice looking cocktail from the kit, though.

Any help you guys can offer would be great. Thanks.

Matt

I've used arcadedepot.com and they were very good.  The kit came well packed and it was pretty easy to assemble.  I'd recommend them if you are going that route.

Awesome, thanks!

How was the space on the control panel?

I'm going to do just old games, so I was thinking of a 4/8 way switchable controller, like Groovy Games or Ultimar.

I want four buttons, plus a trackball and spinner. Arcade Depot has the 11 inch panel. It doesn't say how deep. How much can you fit on the panel without it being too cluttered.

I was thinking of putting the 1 and 2 player buttons on the side of the machine to save space.

Gonna be tough... 11" isn't much. If you do the buttons in a cluster of 4, it would give you a little more space.

I would think a joystick with 4 buttons and a trackball or spinner. You may want to make a mockup to see for yourself.

Check out my build here and see for yourself:  http://knightsofthearcadetable.blogspot.com

On each end I used 3 buttons, a 4/8 way joystick and 4 admin buttons.  I also had room for a spinner on the Player 1 side (no way there's room for a trackball though).  I added a third panel with a trackball and the 6 button fighter set up...

I haven't updated in a while (I probably should) but my cab just handled its first party last weekend and it was a huge hit.  People couldn't get enough (and couldn't believe I built it myself)!

Good to hear it was a hit. I can't wait until I get to that point.  You're machine is really nice. I hope mine comes out that clean. I'm going for an all stained wood look. I like your all-black button motif.

I am willing to forgo the spinner to get a trackball in there. Do you know what the demensions of the control panel are? I'm only doing a two-sided cabinet for now. I might add on later, but I think it's going to stay two-sided.
