Happ trackball goes left when I press P1B1
« on: October 01, 2006, 03:03:16 am »
The title says it.

Just testing the CP for the first time today, and tried out Centipede and Millipede.  Both worked fine until a few reboots and now wehn I try to play, I press the P1 fire button and my guy goes to the left.

I can't find the problem.

The wiring is fine, and the trackball and buttons work fine in windows.

I have my left mouse button wired to the same as the P1 fire button, and everything in Windows works fine.

I'm connecting my spinner (OSCAR Vortex) and trackball (HAPPS) via USB through a 4 port hub, which is attached to my PC.  The rest of the controls (buttons) go through an iPac.

I played with a few .ini and .cfg files and redetected my mouse to no luck.

What am I doing wrong?

Is mame setup properly?

when you hit tab in the game and go to the controls settings is the trackball setup as the controller?

Is +mouse in the mame.ini file?

Should have said I'm using MAME32.

The trackball is set up as the controller.   What I've noticed is that the trackball x-axis is mapped to Mouse 0 and left ctrl. I use Mouse 0 as fire.  I remapped fire to a different button and it works fine.

So this is certainly a software issue.  It should be moved to the software forum.

On a related note, I'm confused about the trackball axis assignments.

In-game, the settings are as follows:

Track X Dec:   Left Ctrl Mouse Button 0
Track X Inc:    Down Arrow Up Arrow Left Ctrl Mouse Button 0 Left Ctrl Mouse Button 0

Track Y Dec:  Numpad 8
Track Y Inc:   Numpad 2

It looks like I've got a decent party happening on my X-axis.

What are the correct settings?

The mameFAQ says it better than I can, but I'll give a quick answer, anyway. ;)

Assume your trackball is "mouse 1", and you're using ver. 0.106 or later.  You need to have "Track X Analog" set to "mouse 1 X axis".  The ones you have listed ("... Dec" & "... Inc") are for mapping physical digital inputs to the analog input.

And your input cfg is different from the defaults; the easiest way to return everything to the defaults is to delete you cfg folder.
