Mapping two joysticks
« on: September 27, 2006, 09:46:14 pm »
My wife and kids are driving me nuts. I have a Mame cab with dual joysticks. The left joystick defaults to player one. Games that only had one joystick (pacman) play on the left joystick. I have no problem with it but the rest of the family wants to be able to use the right stick. How do you map the other joystick? I though of mapping the second stick the same as the first but cant figure out how to do it in Mame. If I do it via the keyboard encoder then it's permanent and games that actually have a second stick wont work correctly. Ok it's probably an easy solution but I dont see it.
Thanks

Sounds like you will have to do it on a game per game basis via the "Settings for this game" option.

I've already looked at that and don't see how it can be done. Games that only used one joystick still show a second joystick for mapping purposes but I'm told it's only used in a cabinet model.

You need to map the P1 Directions in-game so that EITHER joystick will activate it.

Hit tab
Go to P1 Up and hit enter, then hit Joy1 Up
Hit enter again immediately, and then hit Joy2 Up

The display should say P1 Up = Joy1 Up OR Joy2 Up
(Joy1 Up and Joy2 Up will be whatever key is bound to Up on that joystick)

Do this same procedure for the other three directions
