How to get the full picture on a television?
« on: September 27, 2006, 03:11:18 pm »
I did some searching and couldn't come up with much...

I'm using a Svideo out on my computer to connect to a 32" television. Some games are cut on either side of the screen. It's usually not a huge deal but on a few games - Crazy Climber: Can't see the building map, and Mario Bros: Can't see the blue fireballs it's annoying.

I'm running 640x480. I'm using Mame CLI and Mala. How is anyone else dealing with this?

If you happen to be using an ATI Radeon card, there is a utility in the graphics properties (right click on desktop and select properties) that allows you to adjust the screen display geometry with arrow buttons.  That seemed to help me.  Also, try some different resolutions (640x480 with clean stretch seems to always work for me) for the games that are giving you problems -- some resolutions just always seem to run over like that for some reason.

From what I know, TV output from a PC is touch and go (As fars as alignment goes), but for the most part ATI cards are known for having the best PC to TV translation. If you have a non ATI card, that might be why your getting alot of offset resolution.

As far as not seeing the blue fireballs, that might be a refresh mismatch problem with the TV hertz.

In Mario Bros. the blue fireballs form at the far side of the screen and remain stationary for a few seconds, which makes it easier to avoid them once they start moving. I'm pretty sure he's saying that he can't see them while they're still stationary, not that he can't see them at all.
