X-arcade in mame cabinet, direction keys get stuck?
« on: September 25, 2006, 09:05:53 pm »
Hello. This is my 1st post on this forum.

I'm converting an old Burger Time deco cabinet to a mame cabinet. I fit an x-arcade dual controller to the cabinet as my controller device.

This is the new version of the x-arcade pcb that works either USB or PS2. Im hooked up PS2 right now but I'm having an odd problem. Sometimes when playing a crazy game of Metal SLug and both players and wailing away at the buttons the direction movement sticks. Basicaly like the key for player 2 to go right is ghosting. Moving the stick in any other direction will stop the player.

I called xgaming and they say it could be a problem with the fact that the shift key is mapped as player 1 button 4. This is default. I can switch to another setting an reprogram the xarcade however with this new version pcb you must press teh rear button on the xarcade twice for it to load the saved config. Not practical in an arcade cabinet. So is it true that the older ps2 only version uses the saved programmed keys even after the power has been off? Im talking power stip off, no power to the device, not just turning the cpu off.

Also has anyone experienced the problem I am having with ghosting keys on the xarcade?

Thanks!

Charlie

I have the older PS2 version and have never had that problem. And YES, it saves any reprogramming / mapping of the keys for the othe three selections when  power is off.
(it doesn't actually have any kind of "power" going to it, just a standard PS2 plug like any other keyboard)
The only suggestion I can think of is something to do with "sticky keys" in Windows.
Make sure it's disabled. (I would think you'd get a pop-up in the background if it wasn't when your problem happened)

But I could be way off base here too.

Thanks for the reply. So, just to be clear, If you progam mode B to custom keys when you power if off and you turn it back on set to mode B you still have your custom keys without pressing the button 2 times? Remember on most systems the ps2 keyboard is still under power with the system off. You would need to switch off the power supply to totaly kill the power.

The reason im asking is that xgaming support has offered to trade my ps2/usb for the older ps2 only style. This is based on the fact that the tech swears the older one starts up with custom configs loaded. I'm just trying to confirm that. :)

Thanks

Charlie

I am having the exact same problem. It happens occasionally that a button just gets stuck. Someone suggested that teh encoder is bad.

My sticky keys are all off.

i had the same problem.  but its not the encoder.  the joystick is getting stuck on the  bottom panel.  when your controller is stuck right, be very quiet and slowly move it left, you will here a click and then it stops.  the problem is that the controller sits to close to the bottom.  you could just remove the bottom panel, or sand it down.

but my solution was:  i bought a slikstik quad and couldnt be happier.
