Author Topic: Need some info on these chassis (Read 4551 times)

I have 5 chassis that I need help identifying. Google does not seem to be my friend today. I would like any info possible, but im really interested in knowing what size monitor they came from and if the are Low or High Impedance. I included some pictures below if more are needed ill be happy to put more up. My final question is all these chassis have some problems, question is which one would be more worth fixing (based on chassis quality and parts availability)?

Chassis in order from top to bottom.

1- A - ONE Model - AM-0316
2- Sharp Image Serial # 94041480
3- UNKNOWN

4- Nanao Model - KZ-20EN
5- Sharp Image Model

#3 is a WGK4900 series.

#5 is a Kortek of some type, don't know what.

#1 in reality is an early Kortek (high impedance)

#2 in reality is a Kortek (high impedance) different model than above

#3 is a Wells-Gardner k4900 series (high impedance)

#4 is also known as a Sega MC2000 (high impedance, but has a different CRT pinout than other arcade monitors---uses B&K socket CR25)

#5 is in reality a Kortek KT2602M (impedance unknown since I have not encountered one, but since all other Korteks are high impedance my guess who be so is this)

They are all worth fixing, especially the Wells 4900.

Just out of curiosity, what would happen if you hooked up a High Impedance chassis to a Low Impedance Yoke?

Lots of fireworks and smoke along with a damaged chassis and cooked yoke.

That Nanao is 100V AC.... do NOT apply 120V to it for power.

Thanks for the heads up Kevin. Are all the rest of them 120v? Thanks again Ken, your knowledge on monitors is impressive.

I believe the rest are 120V safe..... the 4900 for sure ... the Kortek's I'm not really familiar with and have seen some listed as 110V, but I'm not certain what tolerance they have for power.

The other thing to find out is whether or not any of them require an isolation transformer.
(the Nanao does)

Every one of those monitors pictured require an isolation transformer. The Nanao/Sega operates on isolated 100 volts AC.

After doing some research I found that 11 to 17 ohms is Low Impedance and more than 37 is High Impedance. Now the question is if you were trying to match a chassis to a yoke, would you have to use a yoke that had the same exact values as the original yoke that came with the chassis, or would any low value to low chassis and high value to high chassis work? I've recently experimented with this a little because I have a good Neotec 25" chassis with a bad tube, so I tried it on a WG tube with matching yoke resistance, and I burnt up two horz output transformers doing it. Since they are about $10 each I haven't tried it on some of my other tubes yet, I am going to sell/trade the chassis and just get one of my compatible tube/chassis combos repaired.

Sounds like your horizontal ohms were to low, you can add resistor to increase the ohms. Did you check the horizontal ohms on both yokes? And I'm curious why you didn't swap the WG yoke with Neotec yoke before trying the swap.

You'd think. I also tried adding a 10 watt resistor to be entirely sure the horz resistance was high enough. Still burnt up the HOT.

I didn't try swapping the yokes because I've never done it before, I don't know anything about setting the convergence, and didn't want to try learning now.

Hopefully the repair guy will fix my other chassis that is almost new with a new tube, as he will take the Neotec chassis in trade for the repair. Then everyone will be happy.

if your h.o.t keeps blowing then its underated,the tubes also need to match-its not just down to yoke impedence

Yeah, I was hoping the tubes and yokes were close enough. Apparently, that doesn't always work. I wish there were a chassis->tube compat cross reference somewhere!
