Will this mod work?
« on: September 23, 2006, 02:25:25 pm »
I bought a Discs of Tron cp with joystick because I thought the restrictor would be the same as a Tron joystick. They're not. Since Oscar isn't taking order I was wondering what I could do to make the one I have work. Here is my idea shown in the pics below. Any thoughts as to wether this will work as long as the screws don't interfere with the leaf switches. Any thought would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

dot current - original dot configuration

dot new - modified dot configuration

Seems like a good idea to me. It's probably at least worth a try.

It will work fine, but you may run into some longevity issues if you don't swap out the top restrictor.

The top restrictor is the one that takes all the torque from the handle.
The bottom restrictor just guides the shaft at the bottom a bit.

The hole on the Tron restrictor looks smaller than the hole on the D.O.T. restrictor.  Anybody able to measure and verify?

If they don't match, I think the bottom restrictor from a Pac stick is the same as the Tron.

Thanks for the replies!

I've read before about the pac stick having the same restrictor.

Is it only the Ms Pacman or does the regular Pacman have the restrictor also?

The Tron ones STARTED a little smaller, but the sticks didn't use the plastic shielding around the bottom of the stick.
This caused the stick to wear down the lower restrictors until they became the same size as the DOT ones are to start.

Midway realized that this was a problem, and made the holes a little bigger on the DOT/Xeno ones, and started using the protective sleeve on the sticks.
The rotated DOT one will be nearly identical in throw to the Tron one if you use the rolling sleeve on the bottom of the shaft.

Ms. Pac, Pac, and other 4-way Midway games from the same era should all have that restrictor.  However, see NoOne's post above.
