Suggestions for sports games of all types
« on: September 22, 2006, 09:25:11 pm »
What are some of the better games for all the sports?  I know of certain games for some of these sports, but what are some other suggestions?  2 or 4 players is fine.  I'm looking for mainly mame compatible games, but if there're games that function correctly ONLY with other emulators, please make a note of that.

Baseball?  I have no clue on this one, except RBI Baseball on the NES.
Basketball?  Double Dribble, NBA Jam, Hangtime
Hockey?  Not sure
Golf?  Any GT, obviously
Football?  Blitz, any more?
Soccer?  Again, no clue
Miscellaneous?  Shuffleshot, Bowling (the one also by IT.)
I'll exercise patience when you stop exercising stupidity.

Check out mameworld.net/maws

They have ratings of all games by genre and you can get some great suggestions.

For hockey, I'd recommend Hat Trick.  When my brothers are over and we are playing that head to head it's like a war or something.

Yup, Hat Trick is a great hockey game.

For Football, try the NFL Blitz series of games.

And its sequel, Hyper Sports.

It's not a "real" sports game the way it's played, but I'm fond of Super Basketball.

For football, I play Hard Yardage.

I haven't found a baseball game I really like yet that's playable on an average MAME cabinet.  I'm tempted to put in a Commodore 64 emulator just for Star League Baseball.  World Series '99 is great but not playable on MAME.  When I'm in a baseball mood on MAME I play Champion Baseball.  Super Champion Baseball could have been fantastic with slightly slower pitching and a little fielding assist from the CPU.
