Tron Joystick

Anyone have any idea why the original Tron joystick has an extra leaf with 3 wires coming from each switch?

The leafs probably came off a Wizard of Wor stick.

The first set of connections would make you TURN in a given direction.
The second set would make you MOVE in that direction.

Wizard of Wor was the first thing I thought of, but then I went and looked at a few things.  Encryptor may be counting the blade that pushes the other two together as a "third leaf".  Wizard of Wor sticks have four blades on their leafswitches.  Further, I just looked at the bottom of a couple of Xenophobe joysticks, and for no reason I can think of, there is indeed an extra wire soldered on to one tab on each switch, so that each switch in fact has three wires.

Pics coming.

Here they are, Wizard of Wor on top, Xenophobe on the bottom.  Note the extra leaf blade on WoW, and the extra, redundant wire on Xeno.

Looks like just daisy-chaining the grounds.  Redundancy is wise and also shows wisdom.
