I just can't understand why you all would feel the need to globally block somebody.  So Dartful lacks any capacity to say something funny yet says the same not-funny thing over and over for years on end in a futile attempt to finally make it work.  So Chad argues every point compulsively, sometimes going so far as to abandon the position expressed in his previous post, just so he can continue arguing if you happen to agree with him.  So Drew is a religious zealot with a tendency to derive his world view from extremist websites.  So Howard's a pompous ass.  So Dexter's raison d'etre is to hate America.  So Mr. C has responds like a dos prompt to button pressing.  So Fredster's arguments always consist of either wild leaps of incomprehensible logic or mind-boggling oversimplifications.  So Chrirs is scared of his own shadow.  So I'm a bloody narcissistic know-it-all (by the way, that's the figurative/pejorative know-it-all, not the literal kind).

So ---smurfing--- what.  Some people just want to scrub their world clean and it makes no sense to me.  Ya know, Drew, when you talk to your wife about something someone said on the arcade message board, do you talk about what Fredster says, or do you talk about what Dexter says?  AtomSmasher, when Howard pisses you off and you post a rant back at him, think about how much more clearly and articulately you know how you feel about the issue afterward.

Part of what makes life interesting are the people who are different than us.  Part of what makes life interesting are the people we don't like.

And, anyway, don't ya think it'll get kind of old when you start reading posts that make absolutely no sense because they are responding to, or building off of a previous post that you can't see because of your ignore settings?

If that post took you longer than 2 minutes (hell, ONE minute) to read, you need Hooked On Phonics

Ya know, Drew, when you talk to your wife about something someone said on the arcade message board, do you talk about what Fredster says, or do you talk about what Dexter says?

Is this just part of you trying to make a point and feeling like you have to use SOMEONE as an example, or haven't you read this thread.....and comprehended what was said?  If it's the latter, Chad's rubbing off on you.

It is this.  My point isn't that you want to globally ignore a bunch of people.  I just picked two people who are diametrically opposed to eachother and argue a lot on the board.  It could have just as easily have been Mr. C and Dartful.  Whatever.  I'm just illustrating that sometimes the people who cause conflict are also the ones that make life interesting for us, and you and Dexter are two people who have a lot of conflict and are active enough that everybody knows what I'm talking about.

p.s. Sorry Saint.  You've gotta stop being so balanced and reasonable if you want to hang with the PnR boys    :P

What's this all about? If you want to ignore i would suggest not logging on.

Maybe we all can have conversations with ourselves posting one on top of the other of our own threads without any interaction at all.

I think some of you are taking things way too personal if you're going to the length of blocking a person. It's the intranet, deal with it. To me blocking defeats the whole reason to be on here talking to people.

If there is a particular user that happens to lower your enjoyment of the board, I think you should be able to block them.  I also think that if a certain number of people block a user, that user should be banned.

I think before you consider censoring people or allowing others to censor,  you may want to consider removing the forums causing the most "issues".   Namely the Political discussions forum.   I find myself oddly attracted to the utter and complete mess that is posted in that forum...but it's a source of frustration....a source of frustration I just can't let loose of.

This forum should be all about FUN,  but once a person starts posting in the Politics forum,  what is said there gets "used" all over the forum by people who disagree with the posters politics.

Is it really necessary to have that type of forum on this type of website?   I mean,  there are a boat load of political forums you can go participate in if you wanted to...not sure if it's necessary here...

But while it's here I can't help myself from going in and participating in that train wreck.

PnR protects the rest of the board from that stuff.  Without PnR, it just goes into EE.

BTW, there should never be a mechanism for a group of users to be able to ban another user.  Never.

Agreed 100%.  Bottom line is that the moderators are here to...well...moderate.   They should (and do) have the power to ban....only them.

They shouldn't have the power to ban either.  Suspend, yes, but only the owner should have the right to ban.

When do people "use" things outside of P&R.  I don't read everthing but I can say I have ever seen this, personally.

Is it really necessary to have that type of forum on this type of website?   I mean,  there are a boat load of political forums you can go participate in if you wanted to...not sure if it's necessary here...

But while it's here I can't help myself from going in and participating in that train wreck.

So everyone who wants to participate shouldn't be able to because some people don't have the will power to stay away?

Could we make it subscription based so that even if your logged in, you won't see it unless you subscribe to it?  Would that keep you away?

Don't we have an internal "Global Ignore" when we just freaking SKIP the post?

It's not like their are kids reading it. And it's not like a adult can't just skip to the next guy if they don't wanna watch.  What happens when somebody quotes from the "global" ignore?

If you don't wanna do PnR, then don't CLICK it.  If you don't like a guy who posts, ignore them on your own.  Just like if you don't wanna watch a chanel, CHANGE IT.

It works well on Digg.  If enough users (some obscenely high number) add a user to their personal block list, they get blocked.  It works well if you set the number high enough, as it weeds out only the most annoying of the annoyers.

If you don't like the P&R section, just don't go in there.  Some of my first posts were in there...but I haven't been back in there since.  I have no desire to cloud my perception about others, or other's about me, by what is posted there.

I come here for arcade info and humor!  I occasionally find one or the other.  ;D

I've implemented this mod in a 1.1.4 install of SMF it's painfully easy. I'm sure the question should be did they decide to implement it.

I did, but it will not install here. Don't know why. Fails every single time. :(

Did it kick you an error like it was corrupt? If so, I can help. I had this problem at first too

Thanks Goz - it's doing something weird and timing out on any mod install, but after the first timeout if I try again it works. No clue. I've got it installed now. :)

Is there any way to see who's ignore list I'm on?   :)
