A couple of questions regarding paint and CP's
« on: September 18, 2006, 05:07:26 pm »
I'll be painting some pieces of my cab soon but the only MDF paint I have been able to find without having to order in is Ronseal one coat paint.
It says it requires no primer only the usual sanding preparation work etc.
Has anyone used a one coat paint without a primer before and what did the results come out like?
Lastly I want  my CP to be easily removeable without having to unscrew anything to get it off, whats the best solution for a quick release mechanism?, I was thinking  along the lines of having wingnut bolts holding it into the main cabinet but these seem a bit cheap.
Cheers  ;D

Not sure about your paints over there but I would prime it if I were you.

As for locks. Use these:

The peice on the left hooks into the peice on the right. Its call a clasp. One of those on each side and your panel will come off in less than 10 secs
You should be able to find them in a hardware store.

Yup-panel clamps or heavy duty velcro seem the most popular choices for people looking to have easily removable CPs.

I was going to go the clamp route and then realized I would likely NEVER take my CP off-so I just used some angle irons-worst case it's only 8 screws to remove it at some future date. That's with a hinged CP, mind you, so I can still get into the innards if I ever need to.
$6.75 the hard way-one quarter at a time.

Those clamps should be in the cabinet hardware section of just about any hardware store.
