Foto (poster) print for side-art ?

A couple of companies here offer incredibly low prices for (on-lne) making posters out of a (digital) picture. F.I. I can get a 1.00m x 0,75 m poster for only 19,95 Euro. This would be large enough for my goals. However, I wonder about how thick the paper will be and if that will look "right".

Has anyone tried to go this way and what are your results (pics ?)
