Arcade vga recall !
« on: September 16, 2006, 02:44:06 am »
Hi guys. I just received an e mail from Andy saying that the PCIe avga's are being recalled. Here is the email. Just thought you might be interested. :)

Ron,
We have discovered that a number of the first batch of the PCIe version of the ArcadeVGA have been fitted with incorrect RAM chips which means they only have 128Mb of RAM instead of 256Mb. This causes a conflict in the BIOS. They passed our testing as they do function with a PC monitor but not an arcade monitor.
Please accept our apologies for this problem. We will replace the cards and already have correct cards in stock.
Please follow the instructions below:
Please send the card by AIR MAIL at the Post Office (not Fedex, DHL etc) to the following address:
Ultimarc
11A Sheridan Road
Merton Park
London
SW19 3HW
UK
If you are outside the EU you will need to affix a customs sticker. Please mark this "electronic board for repair" and a value of $5.
Let us know how much the postage cost and we will refund this against your original order.
We will send a corrected card.
Again, apologies for the disappointment with this card. We will provide a working product as soon as possible.
Regards
Andy Warne
Ultimarc.

Hey, that's strange, Andy insists on using DHL for his shipping to customers, but wants things to be shipped to him via mail ??

Anyway, as always, Andy provides a great service. Mistake made, discovered, informed customers and fixes problem.

My guess is that (a) he doesn't want to end up refunding people $50 just for the shipping when people decide to overnight it to him from the other side of the globe and (b) he sends stuff DHL instead of airmail because he doesn't want customers waiting a week or more to get their stuff.

About the B:

For me DHL sucks because they ONLY deliver during business hours (DHL is NOT consumer oriented but business oriented) and I have to drive an hour and back to get the parcel.
That's why I prefer regular mail. Also, mail is just as fast if you select the right options (f.i. send by airmail, not ground.....duh) and it's cheaper (as you say :) )
But this has all been discussed before....and I don't want to hi-jack the thread.

Mail is not trackable like DHL/UPS/FedEx are. You can get delivery confirmation, but most buisnesses prefer to know exactly where their package is.

You can track with USPS too:

I have not had much luck tracking through the USPS.  FedEx, UPS and DHL are much, much better than USPS for updating the information.  I recently ordered from Mame Marquees.  My package was delivered very timely.  USPS still hadn't updated their page showing delivery even a couple of days after the package arrived.  So the service was great, but their web page sucked.

You ever seen a USPS delivery carrier with a scan & sign machine? Nope, me either.

Like I said, USPS will give you delivery confirmation, but they don't do tracking, especially on international shipments. Also, keep in mind that Andy is shipping the other direction, as well, so we'd have to go into what you can and can't do with Royal Mail if we wanted to get specific to this case.
