How much is Galaga worth?
« on: September 15, 2006, 10:36:12 am »
I found a guy here in town who has a Galaga cabinet who said he would sell it for like $100 with no monitor, gameboard, control panel, or anything.

But, he said that he would make it a working Galaga including monitor, PCB, control panel and what not for $250.

If the artwork was not included is that reasonable?

If the artwork is original but banged up is that reasonable?

If the artwork is newly applied repro art is that reasonable?

Thanks to everyone.

I'd say as long as "banged up" is 6/10 or better, it would be and definately with repro art. $250 for a working classic in solid condition would be worth it for me, at least.
$6.75 the hard way-one quarter at a time.

I'd gladly pay $250 for a fully working, complete (monitor, coin door, control panel, marquee, bezel all present), restorable Galaga machine.  As long as the cabinet has no water damage and is structurally sound, I'd say go for it.  If he's planning on applying any new art, I'd consider it an added bonus and have him just give it to you separately so you can clean/fix up the cabinet before applying it.

Decent deal ... and repro artwork has been cheap on eBay lately.

Cheers.

I'll just second everythign that's been said.

I would gladly pay $250 for a working Galaga, even if it was only in "ok" shape.  You can fix up the cabinet easy enough, and as mentioned, the art is readily available and not insanely expensive.

If the monitor and board work well and most/all of the pieces are there, jump on it.  It's a great deal.
first off your and idiot

Man I love the internet, haha.

I will get back in touch with him and make sure that it truly is in a Galaga cabinet.  So if the monitor works, and there is a working PCB with Control panel and some decent artwork I will definently jump on it.  Anything else I should specifically look out for when I check this thing out?

Water damage is the enemy of all cabinets made of particle board (or any manufactured wood).  Check the base carefully.  If it's bubbly or spongey it's not worth it... see if you can just buy the other parts for $150 without the cab!  Empty cabs are a dime a dozen, or $80 worth of wood plus several hours of good learning time with a router.

Apparently the guy who was going to sell this doesn't work there anymore... curious.  But he did say he had a warehouse of games here in Panama City, FL and I will go take a look on Monday or Tuesday.

That sucks, I should have bought it when I had the chance, no more how shady the deal.   ;)
