Which one is for me?
« on: September 12, 2006, 05:54:12 pm »
i read the software list and was nearly overwhelmed, there is so many, i had no idea... but when iut came to choosing one i had problems. How do i know which is for my project?
basically i want my project to look good to start(like everyone) and it has to be touch screen. so i saw the ones that fit that criteria and nothing jumped out at me...silverjuke did at first but it doesnt look like its capable of touchscreen
is there any that have aux speaker controll? my plan is to have an aux output so i guess it would also have to support 7.1 or something
btw, props on one of the best websites on arcade games and jukeboxes!
thanks

My preference is SKjuke.  You should be able to change the sound device to your prefence with Windows sound and audio device properties.

Well you could try http://www.freeboxjukebox.com It has a skintool included to change any of the included skins or create one of your own.

You can get the latest version of our forum, but judging by your post you sound like you might have tried it already. If you let me know what you didn't like i can always try and add your requests into it.

The only other juke i have ever found to be any good on a touchscreen is www.thepcjukebox.com but that is too slow for me which is why i wrote freebox. Other software does claim to be touchscreen compatible but they normally use scroll bars and labels with fonts set too small to be of any use on a touchscreen in practice. At least this is my opinion.

skjuke isnt touchscreen is it, i downloaded it and i wasnt a fan of its functionality.

Maybe you haven't set your options on skjuke to best use it in touchscreen.  I use it as the only input on my touchscreen juke.

I use SKjuke on my touchscreen and wouldn't change. I did make some of the fonts bigger so those with larger fingers can select songs.

I downloaded about 10 different programs at the beginning and SKjuke ended up begin the one that suited my needs in both ease of use and design.

How do you get rid of the windows scroll bars in SKJuke, because believe me these are usless on touchscreens. I have a 14" panel and at 800x600 thoose scroll bars are too small, this is why i found SK to fiddly and also Jukebox Eliminator V2 because you just can't use the scroll bars properly.

I know it sounds like i am promoting my own software, but this is a real issue and if any jukebox uses these windows scroll bars then Touchscreen just isn't as easy to use as users would expect thus detracting from the experience... I tested all the software i could find and found ThePCJukebox to be the best for touchscreens, if only the speed had been better i would never have written Freebox. I Still like thePCJukebox but i think the pricing structure has priced it out of the market and also the bugs/speed issues have let it down.

I am going to re-Download SK Jukebox now and take a look as it might have been something i was doing, because i was unaware you could change the fonts LOL.

EDIT:

I couldn't seem to change the font on the track listing you get with the cover view and it's too small there.

The scroll bar shows up on the cover view and the full track listing and it's just too small to use properly on a touchscreen.

Also i couldn't find a way to alter the size of the X on the track listing screen to get back to the cover browser and that is also too small. Admittedly this is not so much of a problem as you do click it if you click around there but obviously on the scroll bars you can make it jump around while trying to hit the right spot.

Althought these issues do not stop it from working on a touchscreen, they do detract from the exprience as users do like it to be simple. Also it doesn't look good having windows controls shown to the user. I know why they are there because listboxes are used, to be honest an array with a custom slider or buttons would work better.

EDIT2:
Also SK Juke still doesn't read in half of my tags, i just noticed on my test machine here at work.

SKJuke box is set up at 800x600 on my screen and I have ZERO scroll bars. You can't select a song until you select the CD. Then the song is selectable.

The only scrollbar  issue I have with SKJuke is when you do a song search on the new version in 800x600. Apparently it was coded for 1024x768 and the cancel button is off of the screen and the box where the scroll bar is is very small and hard to use.

Unfortunaely I had to revert to the older version to elimiate this problem until a version comes out that fixes this issue.

I don't have the wondows controls showing. You can select full screen in the options. If you are having problems with your tags then use I-tunes to fix them.

Well i see scroll bars when there are more tracks than can be displayed, how do you work around that?

As for the TAGS they work in My App, Winamp and ThePCJukebox so i know the tags are fine. I have not tested with anything else but i think the issue might be ID3V1 or ID3V2, i think it can only read one type.

Maybe it only read ID3V1 and/or ID3V2 tags?

For hide scrollbars:

- Right Click / Options

- Display Settings / Hide Scroolbars (it on the right). The issue when it disabled is, it only partically show some songs.

This is why I would see a autoscroll features, so you can see wich songs it in, or it just added 2 buttons under the songs, when there are more songs than shown (it dosen

Yes you hit it on the head Space Fractal, it just needs a couple of buttons. I like the idea of auto scroll but it could be hard to impliment and actually use. The button idea is perfect.

When I had a similar problem with DOSCab/WinCab, it turned out to be Unicode vs. Non-Unicode tags.  If you have an older version of WinCab, run it and see if it's the same (or the exact opposite) set of tags that can't be read; if so, it's probably a Unicode issue.
