Hi. I am thinking about getting a arcade monitor but i'm not sure home to connect ultimarcs pre-stripped vga breakout cable. I know you have to splice the red, green, blue h- sync and v-sync and the ground wire.

Do you just strip them , twist them, together and cover with electrical tape ? What about the other end of the wires on the monitor were you cut them do you cover those with electrical tape as well ?

I also would like to know how to ground everything. And Lastly how do I know if i need a video amp ? Am I correct in saying that you only need one if your monitor requires a 5 volt rgb signal ?

Sorry for so many questions at once. :dizzy: I also looked through the faq's and searched for info on this but I didn't find anything. ( that I fully understood) ???

I used telephone butt connectors (crimped) when I last did this.

By "ground everything", are you talking about an isolation transformer and earth ground ?

I would ask Andy (have the model of the monitor handy) -- I originally thought I would need ne, but didn't end up needing it at all.

Cheers

Thanks for the info cheffojeffo
As for grounding everything I remember reading a while back that you have to make sure the monitor is grounded that's what i meant.

The monitor I want to get is the vision pro standard. res. color monitor from arcade shop.com It doesn't require an isolation transformer. I'm guessing it doesn't need to be grounded other than splicing the ground wire.

Nope, nothing special required for the VP (including splicing the ground wre) -- it is plug and play.

Cheers.

Sorry ... I misunderstood,

The ground in the video connection you need to splice (like the RGB and Sync). The ground in the power connection you don't need to touch.

Cheers.
